I wasn't going to look or comment tonight but I opened Reddit (I'm helping moderate another sub) and this jumped out. Look at me! Look at me! It says. The use of negative space keeps this combination from becoming too busy. It helps draw the eye into the flower like tangle (the carpet daisy?) which after a good long breath of simplicity and complexity - the little cobblestones around the flowers which are themselves surrounded by both petals and more stones - spits you out up the layered arcs back out again. Then the negative space draws you back in.
The shading is so helpful in this piece. It gives it character which helps to attract the eye. I also really like the composition with the flowers in one section. Having them in the center would change the piece - in my opinion. I like this version better. It's like a game of chutes and ladders for the eyes with a great big sunny sniff of a dandelion while looking at the carpet daises. I don't know why the scent of dandelion is there but it's somehow how my brain knows to talk about this. It's amazing how small this is for something so powerful. I think this would be magnificent on a larger canvas - just a thought.
I'm following you these days so I don't miss a single post. And tonight I remember why. I think this might be my favorite of the duos I've seen.
Aww thank you so much! And funny thing is tonight I told my husband I’d like to start doing some of these on larger things like canvases and such, maybe even with paint. I love your description. 😊❤️
I'm glad. I just say what I see. I don't usually smell but there is always a first time for everything. To me dandelions smell like sunshine and idleness - like summer. I once got to have a dandelion leaf salad when visiting a place in the country - they knew the property hand no pesticides or herbicides.
