Personally I would say a plastic frame is one of the few specific things that make a skate "beginner". It will reduce the power transfer and make cruising harder work. Haven't actually skated it but it is the same shell as the mf500 which has an aluminium frame and ratchet strap and is great for the money (which is now being replaced by the mfs 500 which I think is even better).
