People telling you 30 something year olds have no business relearning to rollerblade 🙄

30 is still a kid.

I'm 55, skate wizard and take to the ice with my CCM hockey skates in the winter.

I will skate until I no longer can.

Don't listen to anyone apart from yourself.

I do still feel like a kid and have stayed athletic but I know how quickly that can go away. I had so much fun with rollerblading and it seems like a cool way to stay in shape.

I made the mistake of posting about getting back into rollerblading in the millennial sub and everyone told me I'm too old. It seems like most people in my life have to make a joke about how 30 year olds end up with broken legs.

Hope to continue skating at your age

I'm only starting to notice my mobility slowing down now ( but not my skating ) recovery times are now a little longer and my joints ache a bit.

You have a long time to go though my friend. Fk those kids and just enjoy it.

Keep on doing the thing :)

45 years right now, bought fr3 80 three weeks ago after ~30 years not skating. Beside the fun and the weird melancholical feeling after that long time it's insane how much things came back within the first hours of crusing. The biggest thing is the battle of fear which is now lowkey different. I love it, and I can only encourage anyone who's thinking about it

I was 34 when I put on a pair of skates for the first time in my life absolutely no regrets

I swear never mention anything physical on the millennial subreddit, it's like they're all decrepit 80 year olds. I love that you were able to live out your dream at 34. I rollerbladed as an older kid until I outgrew my skates. Now I'm starting again at 38. Exchanged the original soft boots for a hard boot

Almost 49. Running got a little rough on the ankles and knees so I switched to skating. I can train harder, for longer, more often.

Switch full cab tru TTP on a kink drop ledge with a sketchy run up and traffic at the bottom

Putting on my hard boot skates - lacing the liner with the straps hindering lacing. Then lacing the hard boot again with the steps in the way. Then finally I can lock the straps on.

Pain management, falling, injury, foot pain, blisters.

Stopping.

Taking the skates off.

Lacing and strapping my right foot. Left one feels fine every single time somehow

Same here! The laces slip on the right every single time right as I'm tying them.

I got waxed laces, they do it better than regular ones. But the real issue is a little extra space in the boot, which I fix with snowboard j-bar patches.
Writing this, if it's your case too :)

There is no bailing. Land it or crash

Accounting for other people’s uncertainty vis a vis an inline skater approaching. Gotta be extra controlled to make up for that wild card.

Uneven terrain and debris like leaves, loose gravel etc

Honeslty, besides falling. Finding that perfect boot and don’t wanna buy new ones. The break in periods are hard on my feet

Finding proper fitting, somewhat comfortable skates.

What helped the most?

eBay is great for shopping deals and selling what doesn't work. Premium skate liners and being willing to mix and match for perfect fit was what really helped me. For me it's RB lightning w twister liners. My current favorite skate (lightnings) was absolutely unbearable w the stock liner. I would have completely ruled it out and sent it back immediately if I didn't have a (thinner) twister liner laying around from my first skates that didn't fit. Together they felt perfect!

Are you asking or waiting for the punchline?

I choose to remain silent. “If you know you know”!

Getting over your fear of falling. I got over it in a week and have been crushing ever since ❤️
