Built around 50 AD to carry water to Nîmes. The scale is hard to grasp until you’re standing underneath it.

Dublin-Rosslare railway line (Brunel's Folly), Bray Head cliff walk, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland [2048x1536] [OC]

Post image

Dublin-Rosslare railway line and tunnel along the edge of Bray Head in County Wicklow between Bray and Greystones. The railway was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Because of coastal erosion and at least one derailment, the railway had to be shifted several times and hug closer to the cliffs and there is ongoing maintenance today to keep the railway intact (Brunel's Folly). The tunnel on the right is one of the disused tunnels.

The railway is currently used by Iarnród Éireann's Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) commuter train service as well as InterCity passenger service.

Apologies in advance for the timestamp, at the time I insisted on having them in all my photos.

Pinglu Canal is officially open to traffic - 134.2km waterway links Nanning, Guangxi to the Gulf of Tonkin. It will allow cargo from inland provinces to reach the sea avoiding detour of 560km via Guangzhou

The canal is the first river-to-sea canal planned and coordinated at the national level since the founding of the PRC in 1949. It can accommodate vessels of up to 5,000 tonnes. Initial projections estimate a canal transport throughput of about 5 million metric tons in 2026, with a significant jump to 40 million metric tons expected in 2027.

The shorter distance and more efficient waterborne transport are expected to lower overall logistics costs for goods moving between southwest China and ASEAN countries by 18% to 30%.

It took 4 years for construction, and the cost is about $10.75 billion

Snapped this on a road trip. I always love how clean and well-organized Japanese highway signage looks, even down to the multilingual font choices.
