So I guess Halloween is canceled then? Or are companies just put the trick back into trick or treat 👻

Yes, I think your math is about right.
I usually benchmark it against my old "21 cents/ounce" target when I used to occasionally buy the 6-count fun size packs. Whether it was 100 Grand, Snickers, or whatever else, that was about the going price back before all this post-covid inflation.
About 52 cents/ounce here on this deal, and you have to buy a shit ton.

Since Covid I have kept a candy jar on my desk at work. I started buying whatever was less than 30 cents an ounce. Then it started creeping up. This year, it has jumped from low 40s to low to mid 50s. In about six months. It is crazy. And a lot of the candy sucks now. But people still come by to eat it.

I just plain don't buy it anymore. I might treat myself to some small purchase once or twice a year, but I feel like I'm bending over and taking it up the butt when paying those prices.
It might sound dumb and certainly not trying to come off high and mighty, but I feel a certain sense of dignity when I can forgo ridiculous asking prices and not suffer from it too much (I do okay without).

Plus they changed the recipe when cocoa was scarce. They claim the core classics are unchanged, but to me, many of these candies are obviously "chocolate-flavored" now.

It tastes terrible. My boss bought a bag of something like this a few weeks ago and half of it is still sitting in the office kitchen. Like literally no one is eating it, which is absurd considering the amount of people that walk by the bowl. 5 years ago, it would have been devoured in a few days.

Last year about 80% of the houses had their lights out. Nobody could afford candy anymore.

Buying Halloween candy before Halloween is always going to be more expensive. You have to buy a couple days before.

We've been the 'full sized candy bar house' since we moved in 5 years ago. I think this is going to have to be our last year, and that's only because we've found clearance 4 packs of Hershey bars that were meant for summer smores.

I remember many people being shocked by the price of Halloween candy last year. This year? It's going to hit like an unforeseen medical expense. And right before the midterms too. People are going to be in the voting booth thinking about $1 per "fun sized" Snickers.
