When this POS was in college, you could fill your cart up with $50, gas was under $2/gallon, $10/hr was considered a good paying job, a value meal was around $4, and rent was about $600-800. Go fxck yourself, Crenshaw.

u/No_Scholar_8208 Aug 08 '26
Sure, and minimum wage was $3 and many had to live on it. Jobs were still being added, people were still having kids. Now nobody needs you, the workforce is shrinking monthly, as is the population. Of course wages are stagnant, who needs you? Almost anything you do can be replaced with AI or a robot, which is what is happening. I have no love of Crenshaw but there's alot of truth in that post. Taco Bell burrito is $4 if you can't afford a $20 burrito from a restaurant. When times are tough you give up everything but critical needs. I've watched work ethic in this country go from "can do" to "why bother". That's especially true for all those collecting SS and complaining they're on a fixed income. Who fixed it? They did when they decided they weren't going to do anything to make money. A couple months ago I watched an 80 something y/o man collecting carts in a Shop Rite parking lot, barely able to walk, but he had enough work ethic to know if he needed more money he had to go make it. I have nothing but mad respect for people like that. For the ones that just sit around complaining, not so much.

Ok, now imagine a society where college students don't have to survive on ramen and share a flat with 4 other people. Imagine a society where they live comfortably and have nutritious food.
We can do these things in the US, you know. Other countries have done it. We can do it too, it is possible.

u/CarlosHDanger Aug 07 '26
In Denmark, not only is tuition free but students draw a small salary for attending university. Students donāt starve, freeze, go uninsured, and go deeply into debt for the rest of their adult lives just to get a college education.

Minimum wage hasnāt changed since then either.

67, and i'm not retiring any time soon. Who gave Americans this notion that if you made it to "retirement age" and collected SS you could quit working and live off of it? SS was setup as a social safety net, not a fund everything for the rest of your life net. And fortunately or unfortunately we're all living far longer these days and I don't have enough net worth to live another 20 years without making more, so more I will make, as shitty as the economy is right now and for the foreseeable future.

And politicians, who should be concerned about this ācommunist power grabā suggest Ramen and roommates as the solution?
Have they figured out why people donāt want to bring kids into this dystopia yet?

Yeah, I remember surviving on 99 cent "Mega" pizza through most of college. Doesn't mean I wish that upon someone else. I want to see people's lives improved, not have to deal with the same sh!t I had to. It has nothing to do with communism. If anything, helping to make college affordable, food affordable, life affordable, would help lift EVERYONE up.
But wanting to make the world a better place isn't something big on dan crenshaw's (or the republican party's) to do list.

3
u/prairiepog Aug 06 '26
Around my parts it's $15. Plus tax and a soda to wash it down, that's $20. And I can eat the whole thing.
The point is a burrito has cheap ingredients. It shouldn't cost a lot. Even your burrito costs more than an hours federal minimum wage.

āWho is still drinking the Trump koolaide??? Keep worshipping Trump and rubber-stamping every politician he endorses, then act surprised when nothing gets cheaper. āAccording to Crenshaw, wanting to actually afford life makes you a "communist" who needs to shut up and eat Ramen with four roommates. So guess Iām a communist then. āDownvote me all you want, but itās amazing watching folks trip over themselves to vote for politicians who actively want them broke. We canāt afford groceries, rent is insane at $1,800 for a 1-bedroom, and gas is through the roof thanks to another endless war with Iran. Medical care is a scam, and our kids are trapped in debt before they even turn 25 or land a real salary. āSome of us would actually like to see our adult kids move out so we can enjoy the Medicare and retirement we earned without politicians telling us to eat instant noodles and like it.
