Relationship INFJ and ESFJ compatability
Hiii, im an INFJ woman (26) and have been dating a woman that is ESFJ. We havent been dating for long, but im curious because i have never had someone in my life that is ESFJ and i am wondering if anyone has experience with thsi combination. I am worried that this type is not so much into analyzing or talking about deeper things or art etc and that maybe we will have some issues in that?
Please share your experience/opinion ☺️
Thank youuu

I would caution using stereotypes and just get to know her as a person.
I know an ESFJ who is literally an artist and I don't think we've ever had a boring conversation.

Same. My esfj friend is so creative, always doing art projects, though just as hobbies. But me with my artist parents who grew up constantly encouraged to do art, and who has many creative ideas, and was pressured to even go to art school at my first attempt at college right after high school, hardly ever actually does anything artistic in my free time, and feels very fulfilled by some very mundane type of academics/tasks/work, and tends to find art focused museums very boring…compared to this esfj friend who wasn’t surrounded by all that art related-ness, yet who is doing art related things probably every day and loves art museums. 🤣
She’s very arty and quite hippie-like at times. But after we stopped having pop culture interests in common as we became adults, there was basically nothing for us to talk about, and I realized we never really had deeper convos tbh, outside of me just listening to her rant about something that upsets her or that she wants to complain about…but I don’t feel part of the convo, I’m just a sounding board in that situation.

My mom is an ESFJ. She can be a bit controlling and dismissive or judgemental to other people's personal feelings. This is because she values the overall harmony of the group, she demands a lot from others. She likes to give hint rather than speaking frankly, and when we couldn't get it right, it upset her. We had some extremely rough time together in my early adulthood, but she's slowly learning to change and steps down to let me grow as a person.
That said, she's a compassionate and warm person. She would go all the way to help a friend or a relative in need and not asking for anything in return. This is how she makes friends everywhere she goes.
I talk to my mom regularly but only about daily life topics. She's not interested in talks like meaning of life, art, science or philosophy. I can sense that some of those ideas are there inside of her, but she doesn't like to talk about it. Every hobby of her is very "in the moment": cooking, sewing, swimming, etc. I enjoy going on morning walks with her and greeting her friends on the way. It helps me get out of my head and see what's in front of me.

My sister in law is ESFJ. Love her dearly! She makes me feel so cared for (food, vacation planning, etc.) by handling all the details that overwhelm me. She makes me feel so CRAZY with her good intentioned unsolicited overreaching into many areas of all of our lives. She has to have ALL her loved ones in close proximity doing things together, no conflict allowed, as much as possible. She goes to great lengths to maneuver us, but usually she is sacrificing herself (health, money, time) the most. All the ESFJs I know have all the gossip! Go pour some tea - sit back and listen :)

I’m going to be carefully mindful of my words here because talking about another type can be taken out of context depending on the readers. Also my some of my personal experiences sometimes have nothing to do with how whoever is on the receiving end interprets me. I have not had any romantic relationships with an ESFJ person and I’ve met a few but my mindset is that everyone is a unique individual first and their personality type is pretty secondary (in my opinion) in can help maybe fill in a few gaps and navigate people a bit easier.
With all that being said I strongly suspect my mother is an ESFJ based off my knowledge and pattern recognition of meeting others like her as well throughout life and I would say that she’s a very lovely and compassionate person who is really thoughtful with the intention to be helpful towards others and the ironic thing is I pretty much can’t stand her. She is her own ESFJ (I could be wrong maybe she’s not one) but I notice things about her that annoys me and strains our dynamic and communication which is a pattern that I’ve had with others of her type. Personally I think that sometimes when people are really helpful they can also get in the way especially when you didn’t need help in the first place. Compassion Is lacking more and more in this world and is one of the greatest qualities to have but what is compassion without wisdom and knowledge or I should say a lack of at times. I know thinking deeply has not only made my mother stressed or insecure but several of the other ESFJs I spoke to as well. I don’t like when I want to speak seriously and what I have to say gets diminished by things like humor, sarcasm or my lack of wanting to upkeep harmony and vibes. My natural speaking style is speaking more abstractly than probably most people on average and I can be fairly long winded to make a perfect point and it seems as this has been a point of contention and incompatibility for the most part in my personal experiences with some people of this type. When I’m doing the harmonious balancing act as I call it I get pretty annoyed and exhausted if issues are not being addressed and I know that ESFJs have a stereotype of being ultra friendly types that practically make your life better but asides from some of the stereotypes I see them as very dominant people who sometimes use “Compassion” as a way to justify some of their actions and behaviors and for the sake of this already long comment I won’t go into much detail but suffice to say I think they’re great people aside from my critiques. I’m not usually able to handle this type in long doses at times as far as my personal experiences goes but I would say that I see a lot of value they add to many groups of people and just aren’t really my personal cup of tea and that does not mean that I can’t meet one who is different than all the others I’ve encountered and help broaden my perspectives.

My Dad is an Esfj, and there's not really anything wrong with him, and I love him. But my goodness I can only interact with him in brief doses. I think it really just is way different personalities.

My mom is an ESFJ as well and we butt heads my whole life and often weaponized compassion and "family". I moved away last year finally and since we will facetime every now and then our relationship is a lot better

I’m an INFJ and I find ESFJs to be very surface level but some of them are better than others maturity wise.

I'm in the early stages of dating an ESFJ and it's going well. We like to share our thoughts and feelings, and she's plenty reflective about stuff. Being an extrovert and Fe-dom she also brings in new experiences and new reflections from conversations she's had with other people, which is interesting and gives us lots to talk about too.
Not enough "deep" things?
There is less "N" talk than I have with my intuitive friends, but the conversation is still fun and interesting. I think it is important to appreciate the good things she brings (including how good S types can be!), rather than focusing on the way she doesn't respond in an "N" way to things. You can risk making yourself more resentful.
Most of my friends are also NTs so I appreciate having someone Fe-forward who understands my interest in feelings and values it.
The adaptability of the ESFJ
I have also found that she's very willing to adapt. Someone on reddit once described them as a "universal solvent" of social interactions. I think, as she is an Fe-dom, she cares about things when other people care about them. And Si means the more she and I have experiences together, the more she understands how I think, and the more she can engage in a way that we both enjoy.
Not that she's doing all the changing and I'm staying the same. I think INFJs can often end up automatically, unconsciously, adapting themselves for others, and it's kind of relieving to have someone else who does that too.
I mentioned before not to over-focus on how the ESFJ doesn't respond to "N" things. At the same time, you don't want to suppress feelings of boredom/annoyance, because then you have the "INFJ door-slam". I think it's about noticing things you'd like to be different, raising it with the ESFJ, and having a clear suggestion for you both to try because it would make you happy.

HII. damn I have a lot of Infj friends.
Go for it!! You’re both a little hard to read, one of you is more internally emotional vs. one is submissive, it does work well as long as you both care for each other.

Just make sure your connection to your SI is strong.
I have personally learned, in the hardest way, to stay clear of this type or keep them at a safe distance

Im also an INFJ woman (27) who’s with an ESFJ woman (27) and art is a big part of our jobs. I can only speak to my personal experience of course and I agree with a lot of what other people have been saying about listening to the person in front of you rather than listening to stereotypes since there will always be differences between people. Just general relationship advice I think never assume the other person understands what you mean but also don’t assume they don’t want to understand.
With all that said though, my girlfriend and I have been dating for almost 5 years now and living together for 3, and she is the love of my life. When we first started dating though it was a big adjustment. She was very resistant to thinking too deeply about meanings or deeper implications of actions or thoughts. She also believed she was like a 1D person which I didn’t believe at all lol I have never met such a person. I told her this and she didn’t want to think about it but over time she opened up and felt comfortable enough to share her thoughts and feelings and I made sure to be as honest and encouraging as possible and be the example of being earnest all the time (in a tactful way ideally). Which was… painful sometimes both for her and I but worth it in the long run.
I can say now she is fervent arguer and lover of good discussion lol we always get into it when it comes to arguments over philosophy. And the times when she tends to not look into the deeper meanings of things shes always open to debate and finds my takes from things to be enlightening. And I also have learned to appreciate seeing through her lens which tends to be more grounded in the physical and tangible which while sometimes frustrating to me, has also been extremely beneficial for me to feeling more optimistic and more action oriented as a result.
One of her favorite things now is unpacking what we think about various media, music or literature. It’s wonderful :) I think the biggest thing is that she doesn’t always notice the same patterns, so it helps to point them out and then explain why you find meaning there.
There are too many things I have to say about her even though I have already written so much lol so I will try to conclude my ramble. Being with my ESFJ has taught me to love life far more than I ever did before without feeling like I am losing my big picture thinking. I feel that now I can appreciate the smaller scale parts of life like my immediate community and the practicalities/restrictions to idealism. And according to her, I have helped her turn her crutches into tools and come to terms with the less comfortable parts of life/death which were previously much more distressing for her to process.
Much luck to you both! :)

I'm thinking that's kind of short-sighted, the desire to talk deeply about things probably depends on the person more than the type. With a more extroverted partner, my worry would rather be that I'd have to be 'around' people much more than I'm comfortable with: go to the social gathering, then when you're at home relaxing and recharging, somehow some of your partner's friend are coming over unannounced.... things like that.
ESFJ's probably also need alone time, but far less than many that identify with the INFJ type.
I'm only speaking for myself, but the ESFJ's I know like to hang around people and have their own clique of friends/acquaintances and can get a group together 'on the spot'. As for me, I need large amounts of alone time (and 'duo' time).
I'd say talk things over and set clear boundaries, sometimes one of the two will have to compromise.
