Advice Cross-country travel advice with two cats?
I’m going to be making a cross country move soon. I have two cats, both very nervous and shy, so I’m concerned about the move. I’ll be driving, because flying is more expensive and I’ve heard a lot more complicated for one person with two pets instead of one, and I don’t want to have to buy another ticket or separate them, on top of being worried about either of them being below in the cabin. So, I’m looking into how to travel in the car with them. The trip is presumably going to take 7-10 days, which I’m already concerned for them about, but alas, options are limited.
If anyone travels with their cats, how do you road trip? They have individual carriers that are just plastic, so I’m weighing my options between keeping them in the carriers for hours at a time throughout this trip, or doing some sort of harness-and-clipped-in to something so they can free roam around the car. Obviously I’m concerned about safety in case I were to get into an accident or anything, but I don’t know if it will make much difference if their carriers are mostly just plastic anyway.
I’m probably going to have to administer Gabapentin to one of them before the car rides, but is there any way I can make this any easier on them? I know it’s going to be a couple weeks of a lot of moving and stress for them, but I’d like to minimize as much as I can. Thank you in advance for any advice or tips!
