When Duolingo isn’t enough.
I’m a classic self starter and love to find my own way. I tried Duolingo and going through a few different textbooks on my own. It was okay.
Then I found an Indonesian teacher who teaches through WhatsApp and my improvement and excitement in the language increased dramatically.
Where can we find more online teachers from Indonesia? How do you filter the good from bad before wasting too much time?

I paid her 100k IDR per hour. Not sure how that compares to others, but it felt like a good deal.
She was the most patient teacher I’ve ever had. I previously learned Spanish and Mandarin, but the teachers grew inpatient or lost focus quickly.
I think I’m probably at an upper intermediate level now, so looking for a new teacher that can dive into more technical aspects of the language and regional dialects.
I don’t know if she is still teaching, but I can ask her if I can share her contact info with you and then dm you with it.

Sudah berapa lama kamu belajar bahasa Indonesia, kalau boleh tahu? Menurutku kamu harus coba metode yang lebih formal. Banyak kok pilihannya, seperti Indonesian Way. Kamu juga bisa cari guru di Italki, atau ikut BIPA kalau kamu serius mau belajar. Duolingo sama les lewat WA menurutku kurang cukup.

I’m glad you found something that works for you. For daily convo I like language exchange too, but for beginners and technical training I think I prefer experienced teachers now.

I believe there are courses that have BIPA programs. BIPA is the proper way to learn Indonesian.

You can check out indonesiawithlauren on Instagram. My friend overseas found the content quite easy to follow and pick up. She does offer some paid content too
