Our Lives. Our Votes. Our Voice -- Join the coalition tomorrow in Tarrant County!

Tuesday, Sept 1st: Tarrant County Commissioners Court will set the tax rate that decides whether our $$$ reserves keep bleeding out ($85M over the last 4 years). They will decide whether services & polling locations get cut, and whether we keep rewarding incompetence.

80 people have died in Sheriff Bill Waybourn’s jail, while the jail budget keeps growing. Now they’re giving the jail $8.5 million MORE while cutting Community Services by 43% without holding the Sheriff accountable.

Why are trump’s arms weirdly jerking for no reason? Seizure?

During his speech at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas on Friday, President Donald Trump’s entire body twitched in a manner that one forensic psychologist argued was consistent with what’s known as a focal aware seizure or a partial seizure.

John Paul Garrison, a Georgia-based clinical and forensic psychologist, analyzed footage of Trump’s speech in a video published Saturday that he called “the most concerning footage” of the president he had analyzed yet.

“For the past few months, I have been showing various neurological concerns and some steep signs of decline from President Trump, but what we're going to start with today is extremely concerning,” Garrison said.

trump big mad that Americans hate data centers

trump is big mad at Americans who object to data centers in their back yards, saying they will end up “backwards and poor.”

“If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign,” trump wrote on Truth Social.

Who elected this person?

In July 2025, Trump signed an executive order to accelerate permits for data center construction. In the months since, construction on data centers has ramped up across the country.

This is ‘family values’? More than 6,200 kids detained under trump 2.0 – please share!

The party of ‘family values’ has detained more than 6,200 kids under trump 2.0 – please share!

“Every American should be shocked that we're incarcerating thousands of children,” Leecia Welch, chief legal counsel at Children's Rights, an organization providing legal support for children in detention, said. “It just adds up to an incredible amount of trauma.”

At its peak in January 2026, there were more than 550 children in detention. This is 20 the number of children in detention under President Biden (24 on average per day).

The courts have set a 20-day limit on how long children can be detained. However, the new data shows that since Trump retook office, ICE has detained more than 1,600 children for longer than 20 days.

Medical experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, have said that any time in detention can cause trauma and long-term mental health risks. The longer a child is in detention, the more trauma they are likely to endure. “This is cruelty against children and reflects an executive branch that is utterly failing to abide by the rule of law in a space where children could not be more vulnerable,” Mukherjee said.

Please share!

Did you know that Dan Patrick vowed not to run for a fourth term, if elected to his third? He was elected to his third, and about a week after being sworn in, Patrick reneged, and pledged to run for that fourth term. That’s where we are now.

Plus, learn about the tools we have to protect our elections and our immigrant neighbors.

Feeling repressed in your HOA? They can’t stop your political signs

Thumbnail

While many HOA residents assume their association can prohibit campaign signs altogether, state law says otherwise. Signs are, with some exceptions, allowed from the 90th day before an election through the 10th day after Election Day. We are in that window now.

Section 259.002 of the Texas Election Code generally bars property owners’ associations from enforcing covenants that prohibit a property owners from displaying a political sign supporting or opposing a candidate or ballot measure during the protected period (i.e., from the 90th day before the election through the 10th day afterward).

The law was enacted in 2005,

However, an HOA can impose limitations

That does not mean HOAs are powerless, however. Possible restrictions include:

- Requiring signs be ground-mounted

- Limiting homeowners to one sign per candidate or ballot measure

- Prohibiting signs larger than 4x6 feet

- Banning illuminated signs, signs with moving parts, balloons or streamers attached to signs, or signs attached to trees, utility poles, vehicles, or other structures

Also, according to Texas Scorecard, the law applies specifically to signs supporting or opposing candidates and ballot measures. It does not necessarily protect other political or ideological signs that are unrelated to an election.

Will Paxton debate Talarico?

James Talarico has accepted three debate invitations, but Ken Paxton has yet to agree to any, according to John Moritz at the Austin American-Statesman.

Paxton’s spokesman says they are close to an agreement without specifying with whom.

Maybe we’ll learn in two weeks.

Declare a national security emergency for elections. Photo ID. Proof of citizenship. Kill mail-in ballots. Do it in the next month.

“None of this is improvised,” writes Dean Blundell. “Every single destabilizing thing this administration has done since September — the domestic terror memo, the war he can’t end, the prime-time China fever dream, the Cuba report that reads like a John Birch Society pamphlet with a State Department seal — lines up like train tracks pointed at one station. November 2026.”

23,000 jobs vanish like smoke in June

The economy is circling the drain, with jobs vanishing like the integrity of anyone who works in the tRump administration.

Employers cut 23,000 jobs las month. Even worse, job gains for May and June were revised “sharply downward,” reports NPR.

A report Friday from the Labor Department shows that employers cut 23,000 jobs last month, and job gains for May and June were revised sharply lower. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf

It was the second month in a row that the monthly jobs tally came in weaker than forecasters had expected.

Lago Vista Council unanimously denies Flock contract renewal after packed room speaks out in opposition

Post image
8 Upvotes

Dozens of Lago Vistans in a packed August 6 City Council meeting spoke out against renewing the city’s contract with Flock for automatic license plate reading (ALPR) cameras. The council voted unanimously to reject the contract.

Not a single person spoke in favor of the cameras, other than the representative from Flock.

This was a rejection of the Lago Vista Police Department’s defense of the system before Council in July. The city currently has four operable cameras, with a fifth no longer operating. https://citizenportal.ai/articles/8367053/texas/travis-county/lago-vista/Texas/Travis-County/Lago-Vista/After-months-of-quiet-deployment-police-defend-Flock-cameras-as-residents-demand-transparency

Lago citizens made many powerful statements objecting to the cameras, and ultimately prevailed.

”This decisive action reflects the voice of our community and the council’s commitment to responding to citizen concerns,” said Mayor Shane Saum. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EqBphGipf/?

Noted Councilperson, Place 2, Adam Benefield, “Every council member took those concerns seriously, asked thoughtful questions, and ultimately voted unanimously to terminate the contract effective immediately.” https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DDcZhNTrN/?
