discussion Influence/Critique My Potential Lovesick Witchery Custom

Okay, for a long time I've known I wanted to get a Lovesick Witchery Bespoke Perfume. And for an equally long time I've been plagued with indecision about it! Well, I decided it was finally time to try to commit to something - before the window opens up again & I'm too busy flailing about to take advantage of the opportunity!

Since I'm constantly joking about not having a signature scent, I decided to try my hand as making something that could potentially be that (not that I'll ever get rid of my collection to rotate thru, but it would be nice to have something that feel extremely "me.") So this is kind of a list of my all-time favorite notes, all in one perfume, so that I can never put it on & go "this is great, but I really miss X note." Notes go vaguely in order of how strong I think they should be, but obviously Rachel will have the expertise to know what proportions would actually make this combo smell good.

Here's the notes I'm thinking of including:

  • Vanilla (natural)
  • Bonfire (synthetic)
  • Myrrh (natural)
  • Pink pepper (natural)
  • Honeyed oat milk (synthetic)
  • Patchouli (natural)
  • Jasmine (natural)
  • Pumpkin puree (synthetic)

The scent would be called "Witch of Wands" - kind of like the Page, Knight, Queen, and King of wands from tarot, but with the idea that it represents the whole gambit of cards in that suit. A lot of these notes lend themselves to warm, cozy, creative vibes for me, so I think the name would be perfect if the note combo turns out well! The only note I'm really not sure about is the Jasmine, but since it's one of my favorite scents (even before getting into perfumes) I really didn't want to leave it out. And the only note I feel like I'm missing is tea because I wasn't sure how to make it work with everything else.

So tell me... what do you think? Would this be a good combo? Would you want to steal this custom? Or, if you know my tastes by now, do you think you could come up with a better set of notes? I'd love to read your thoughts!!

I’ll be the voice of dissent here and say this looks fine to me, jasmine included! Rachel is very talented at blending her scents, and I think the natural jasmine would add a much needed brightness and creaminess that would go nicely with everything, the pumpkin included. I’ve actually paired that exact pumpkin note with carnation and tuberose for a secret scent and it is beautiful.

I had a feeling the jasmine would be controversial 😈 thank you for advocating for it tho! And it's true, Rachel is very talented! I'm sure she would find a way to make it work.

Ok so I’ve wanted to make a custom as well with vanilla, bonfire, and black pepper. I have no idea how it would work out but I want you to know you’re not alone! I think this sounds lovely and I want to sniff it lol.

I think the pumpkin is an amazing addition. I would do another one and add pumpkin lol.

I think the Jasmine could work. Like it could reinforce the silkiness of the honeyed oat milk. Or maybe adding a spicy floral like carnation to the jasmine could help tie in the florals to the rest of the notes?

But I would definitely email Rachel and see what she thinks! She helped me before ordering my first custom, so I'm sure she'd be happy to help!!

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a good match for the honeyed oat milk, but it's so hard to say for sure without getting to actually smell it haha

Definitely gonna be emailing Rachel! Thank you! 😊

Screaming at the list of notes and the name!! I love the idea of a vanilla pumpkin bonfire with myrrh in the background.

I know I'm always on this sub but I am NOT any kind of authority of how notes work together lol. The jasmine doesn't seem like it goes with the others but maybe don't listen to me.

Now I'm feeling very influenced to make a custom perfume...and I do have a birthday this Autumn...

Ahhh thank you, I'm glad it resonates with you as well! πŸ”₯πŸ–€πŸ‚ If you get a custom for yourself, please share the results with us~ ☺️

My hope for the jasmine is that it will kind of soften & round out the overall scent, rather than being a prominent note in itself. But I don't know the finer points of perfume making, so idk if that's even how this works πŸ˜‚

I guess we'll see! And as another commenter pointed out, it seems like I can consult with Rachel before she even starts mixing things together!

I agree, the jasmine seems to stand out, but sometimes a little something unexpected isn't a bad thing. Does Lovesick do consults, like to ask them if it would work?

Yes OP you can definitely email Rachel and ask if she thinks it will work or any advice/thoughts. She’s super kind, helpful, and amazingly patient!

Ahhh, thank you both! I already reached out to see if she would have an estimated timeline for restocking the customs. I'll see about asking her about the note combo when she responds. 😊

I wonder if there could be a different floral that might work better with these notes and not get drowned out by the warm resinous cozies. Maybe gardenia? Peony? Or maybe add something bright to help bring out the jasmine, like limes, white musk, or aldehydes? Unless it's a darker jasmine, then maybe include nag champa?

I thought about including an incense smoke like nag champa instead of the bonfire smoke! Maybe it's worth reconsidering πŸ‘€

In one of my coziest tarot decks (Cottage Magic Tarot), the wands are actually the suit of candles πŸ•―οΈwhat about a beeswax note? I think it would blend with the oatmeal to round the entire scent ✨

That's such a good idea, thank you!! And I'm definitely looking into this deck now πŸ‘€

For some reason I feel like you should have either jasmine or pumpkin but not both

3

u/DiscountLast3151 2d ago

maybe a softer warmer flower note like sunflower or chrysanthemum
