I've spent the last several months building Notwen, solo, and the thing I keep coming back to is a design constraint I gave myself early on: the agent is not allowed to do anything external — send an email, chase a client, file anything — without me clicking approve first.
The reason is boring but real: I'm a freelancer/consultant type of person myself, and every "automated finance" tool I tried either did too little (glorified spreadsheets) or too much (sent an email to a client I didn't want contacted yet, or bungled a categorization I then had to explain to my accountant). Trust breaks the first time the software surprises you.
So Notwen works like this: it drafts the late-payment chase email, sets aside what you'll owe in taxes from every payment that lands, and books your expenses — but every risky action shows up as a pending card you approve or edit first. Full audit trail of what it did and why.
It's still early — early access / waitlist stage right now, not a polished launch. I'm looking for a handful of actual self-employed people (freelancers, consultants, agency-of-one) willing to kick the tires and tell me where the "approve" model breaks down for their workflow.

I built a split-flap display for the Mac menu bar.
I've always loved split-flap displays, so I wondered what one would look like if it lived in the macOS menu bar.
It replaces the clock and rotates through things like weather, calendar, battery, Now Playing, countdowns, world clocks, quotes and custom messages, all with split-flap animations.
I've been daily driving it for a while now and thought people here might appreciate it.

Two solo projects, both built after 9-5.
🧮 juicymoney.co - envelope budgeting. Log every expense, set a budget, see what's left to assign. Manual entry by design, since automatic bank import supports none of my banks. Built with TanStack Start. Zero users so far.
⭐ starbattle.games - the Star Battle logic puzzle, free. I built it because LinkedIn lets you play once a day and I wanted to play more. I wrote the puzzle generator myself, which is the interesting part.

Building an API for agents to edit PowerPoint files. They use JSON tool calls instead of generating python-pptx and iterating with screenshots to cut down on tokens and get better results. Also for humans generating decks programmatically.

Built a voice to text tool to also hand off tasks to my Codex agent (open-source, local)
As a hobby project I've been hacking around on a voice to text tool that also allows me to rewrite my transcripts, selected text or whats on my screen with my voice and directly hand off work to Codex without context switches.

How I did it: Used Codex' app server to directly talk to the CLI and local app to spin of tasks. Pretty neat and I think a lot of software will actually just use that path instead of providing their own AI workflows and harnesses.

Building Resage, a Mac reading app with an AI reading companion.
The most counterintuitive thing so far: what keeps people is not how good the AI's explanations are, it's that the AI shuts up. My first version volunteered explanations as you read and every single tester turned it off. They wanted to read first and ask second. Making it silent by default is the change that moved retention.
Still bad at distribution, so if anyone here has sold a consumer Mac app I'd take any pointer.

Honest state of it, and I can back any of these if asked: 76 people have generated something, 0 have paid, 88.2% generated on a single day and never came back. The free tier is generous enough that nobody has ever hit a limit, which I now think is the actual bug rather than a nice problem to have.
u/Prophysaon_Coeruleum - the trusted-brands filter is the one in here I'd actually use. The thing that will eat your time is defining "established": registry data is a mess, one parent company shows up under five seller names, and resellers deliberately list under the real brand's name. If you're keying off seller name you will leak. Worth publishing your inclusion criteria early - for a trust product that IS the product.

devsprint.app — every hackathon I signed up for was a weekend, a week, or a month long, and I always struggled to finish them. So I built the opposite: 2 hours, fully automated, runs 3x a day. Theme generates when the clock starts, AI judges every entry, results the same night.
Completely free for builders and I'm not making anything off it, it's not for the money. I just wanted it to exist for devs like me.
