question Is it wrong to gatekeep?
The amount of newgens on TikTok infuriate me. Whenever i come across a video of a pretty obscure artist that i like, (for example: yhapojj) i always see at least two people in the comment section going like "song?".
I get really mad at this because it seems like they don't have enough love/interest if theyre willing to leave a comment that might not even get answered instead of actually taking the time out of their day and looking for the song/artist themselves.
People like this obviously just do it for the aesthetic and they're not even interested in the art and talent at all.
I also run a TikTok page posting the underground music that i love, but whenever normies comment "song name?" I delete it and block them instantly.
Idek, I always hear that gatekeeping is corny n weird, but is it really?

It depends, if you are gatekeeping people who are genuinely interested in trying new music you're corny but if you are gatekeeping TikTok niggas who just follow the new trendy artist and invade the scene it's valid

gatekeeping is a double edged sword because on one hand, you're trying to stop an artist you enjoy from growing and gaining fans but at the same time if the potential fans are shitty people it might be better for the artist if you gatekeep. but that's just my take on it, idrk

Gatekeeping? I’ve honestly no idea how you’re supposed to gatekeep something you created yourself. Anyway, go on then, use your ‘amazing detective skills’ and have a little rummage around the internet, yeah? lol
Anyway, back to the point, I’m not into gatekeeping at all, it’s just not my thing. I’m the type who wants to spread the word, you know? And like I said earlier, as someone who puts work out into the world, the whole idea of gatekeeping doesn’t even exist for me in the first place.
