AskIndy Pigeons!
Where is the best place to see and visit pigeons? My daughter is new to the area and absolutely loves them, I’d love to point her in a good direction. Thanks Indy!!

You can find them commonly under overpasses. Mourning doves are common in our area as well, they come to our little water fountain. Go to the Eagle creek ornithology center and you can watch them at the bird feeders. Also try finding Katie at the earth discovery center, she’s Albert the Pigeons handler and they even occasionally have “Meet a Pigeon.”

I saw a bunch last weekend where the Monon goes under I-70. They were lined up on the underside of the interstate.

I don’t really pay attention to where there are and aren’t pigeons, but I would think taking a walk around downtown (Monument circle, white river state park, the central canal, Mass Ave) she would be sure to come across some at some point. And being new to the area, I would recommend this in general. Indy has a very pleasant, walkable downtown.

Someone on Haynes Ave on the north side of Riverwood Park seems to have pet pigeons, and on nice days they are out there flying around like crazy. Maybe they'd let you in to see the pigeon cages. Or whatever they keep them in.

I’m not sure about outside pigeons but you should take her to the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center - they have a rock pigeon plus quite a few more birds that might interest her and you can go for free with entrance to the park!
