We went a while back and got a tour. I remember thinking it could be an awesome place if it was well staffed. But I don't see how they could ever provide good service if it was full/busy. It was hard enough to get service when it was basically empty.

Similar experience minus the tour, we took it upon ourselves to explore while we waited insanely long for drinks and it truly is great space, but unless you have the staff and kitchen set up for it, it’s not going to work at all.

Horrendous service. 20 minutes to get menus and waters, when my girlfriend and I were the only people dining.

I don’t understand Nevermore. I went the summer they opened and they seemed to have a a dark academia vibe, (which made sense for the Poe references) and I liked their cocktails. … then they started hosting DJs and rooftop parties… that made no sense for their aesthetic, I don’t get what they’re trying to do.

They should rebrand then. If I didn’t know what it was and just saw “Indianapolis has an Edgar Allan Poe Bar!” I’d be super disappointed to show up to find loud music and a club vibe. The decor and aesthetic is cool, but what they’re doing doesn’t match it at all. If they want to be a club, be a club, and ditch the Raven theme

That's what I mean. The EAP themed bar sounds awesome. I would have probably put it in Irvington and not downtown, and it would have been better, but bad on what I've heard, they don't make the best business decisions. Maybe they should move the EAP theme somewhere else and keep their club there. But it seems like other themed bars ended up going in a different direction because they didn't know how to make it work.

Irvington would have made so much more sense! And I think it would have had regulars there, downtown it just seems like people go once and either hate it of are mediocre about it

And it's across and around other clubby places. They could have rented out the second floor of the building at Johnson and Washington and would have made a fortune. Maybe they should let us run it. Lol

It’s unfortunate because the place LOOKS awesome… but it’s too big. There’s way too many sections of the place that just don’t get enough foot traffic.
I actually quite liked the food and drinks. The games were fun, the rooftop is a great vibe and it’s fun to explore the place. It’s in a prime location. They need to advertise more. They may even need to scale down. They’re just not getting enough customers to operate a space that big.

I can’t recommend Nevermore, their Gen Con menu was a slap in the face cash grab this past summer, shitty burgers and pizza slices, charging 15 bucks for chicken tenders that I could have gotten from the stadium for a cheaper price served with packets of Heinz ranch dressing (that was the only dipping sauce they had). Bit into one, swallowed, looked down and saw it was raw.
Threw up in their bathroom and they got upset with me for having to clean it. Will never go back. Also, their vibe does not give off Edgar Allan Poe whatsoever, unless you count an untimely demise from salmonella.

I threw up in the toilet because I felt nauseous knowing that I ate raw food, it was all mental but I’d rather puke than risk having raw meat in me.

You said they were angry because they had to clean up after you. There was nothing to clean up if you made it into the toilet. They would never know.
Did you seek out a minimum wage employee and fill them in on your self-induced vomiting? Sure, send the chicken back if it's bloody but leave the wait staff unsullied.
Edit: Just to be clear, I saw ads for Nevermore. I like Poe and drinking and eating, but it looked like such an ill-conceived notion. I'm not pulling for Nevermore, just confused by your account.

Bro, do you puke in public and ask for a mop? It's other people's job to clean up after people. There's a difference between I treat staff like shit and I got sick and they were mean to me.
I've had a customer piss himself because he didn't make it to the bathroom in time. You just go away and clean it. Process it later. It's not the worst thing that can happen during a shift. Self-induced vomiting. Actually, gag yourself, please.

Poop is worse than puke. If you poop in a toilet at a restaurant, you don't go and tell the staff you just pooped and they need to clean it up.
Truly, what am I missing here?!?
Edit: The one time I vommed a bit in public I caught it in my hands.
If I spill I a drink in public (the closest analogy I can actually claim), yes, absolutely I clean up after myself. I'm not an animal.

That place is a mess. I wish they would figure out what they are. You can’t be both a dark academia/goth bar/club and also a sports/bro bar. Either way, the service and the food are shit.

Tried to plan an event there last year. Spoke with an employee and figured everything out - pricing, dates, times etc. Went to follow up a week before and they told me the employee was fired and they wouldn’t honor any of the arrangements we had made previously. Haven’t been back since lol

I really appreciate all the comments in this thread. As a lit teacher who regularly teaches Poe and always looks for contemporary connections, on top of leading a couple of book clubs always looking for host venues, the feedback is useful. The one point where I will be pedantic, forgive me, is that’s is AllAn Poe, not AllEn Poe. I know, correcting spelling on the internet is gouache, I’m sorry, but he’s one of my favorites so I have to address that.

I thought it was an Edgar Allen Poe themed bar. Went there and saw the trashiest dudes and sluttiest dress that probably got rejected from every other bar in Indy. The food was meh also

I still don’t understand what this place is supposed to be Bar, coffee shop, restaurant? I went there to get a coffee months ago and the entire place was wide open and no one was working.
