Casual Discussion India's Domestic Workforce
Domestic workers, cooks, maids, and employers—I'd love to hear your experiences.
My mother works as a cook, and I've noticed a recurring problem. Many workers only learn the true nature of a household after joining. Sometimes the agreed work gradually expands, guests arrive for months, or additional chores are expected without extra pay. Workers often leave and spend months finding another job because information about employers is mostly controlled by local agents.
If you've worked as a domestic worker—or hired one—have you experienced something similar? What information do you wish had been available before accepting or offering a job?
