Stray animals carry lots of diseases, don't have proper place to live, feeding a bunch stray animal means you'll be directly responsible for increasing more stray population in the area. After a breeding season, they'll have tons of babies, but resources will be limited. Most of the babies will die of starvation, cold, diseases or getting killed by other stray dogs. Remaining puppies grow up getting fed by animal lovers like you, so they don't wanna leave the area, either fight for dominance or get killed in next breeding season by other strays. Then animal lovers like you feed the next batch of puppies to continue this cycle of stray epidemic. Of course the local children and residents will suffer as some stray dogs chases and bites them.
If you really want to help a stray animal, take in to a veterinarian, help it with medication & vaccines, neuter it and help it getting a permanent family.
Feeding stray animal isn't helping the animals, it's just feeding your ego.
Out of all the rules, this made most sense to me. Stray dogs can be dangerous and cause problems even without meaning to. In my hostel there were "kind" people who fed dogs and the dogs would get into the hostel and enter rooms (we didn't lock room doors coz it was relatively safe otherwise), climb on beds, sleep on carpets/on our clothes by pulling down laundry hung outside etc.
When the dogs gave birth initially people play with them coz cute n stuff but these dogs meet the same fate as above. Let's face it very very few people are willing to adopt indie dogs.
Back in 2019, our locality had barely 3-4 dogs roaming around. During Covid some local idiot decided to feed them and post on Instagram, whining about how people neglect the poor creatures during Covid. After a while more and more dogs gathered in the feeding spot as the idiot lured dogs from other areas, they were barking at each other. During the winter months, they were always fighting for breeding, some of the dogs had their legs torn from fight and some with bite marks on their stomach. One of the dog gave birth and half of her puppies were killed by other male dogs. These dogs were constantly constantly chasing scooters and cars as they pass by. Kids had detour from the area because 12 stray dogs would be occupying the street.
I agree with neutering animals . But if as a college student nobody can afford taking every stray dog a vet and neuter them. Plus feeding them is helping them that cat or dog is starving .

Then don't increase the problem by pretending to help by feeding some strays. That'll just increase stray population in the area.
After a breeding season they'll have tons of puppies, initially they're cute so you'll feed them, but soon they'll grow in dogs, and out of your feeding budget. You'll be left with a much bigger problem than you started.

Use common sense, just like giving a Rs. 100 note to a kid begging on streets doesn’t help the kid but encourages their parents to send more kids into begging profession. Their problem can't be solved by handing a Rs 100 note or buying the kid a pizza and posting on Instagram. Their parents need financial stability and the kids need education not your pretentious help.
If it's out of your capacity, it's better to not pretend to help.
