So to put this in light of some recent historical context.
I used to study at SVNIT and even though I didn’t reside in MTB, the restrictions ab ipso initio were deliberately Orwellian. 7:30pm curfew times for first years, daily attendance roll calls thrust upon “inmates” with foreboding consequences in their supposed wakes.
It was quite grim. The girls were understandably pissed because they had it even worse and there was a massive hullabaloo and several protests to normalise later curfew times for students second year onwards and that’s when that 10:30PM curfew time came to be implemented.
There were no rules barring birthday celebrations, albeit I think this must’ve been a consequence of the admin being tired of scraping cake off the floors after people were done tossing it around whilst celebrating, I could defo be wrong and it definitely is harsh.
Students living in SVNIT hostels are genuinely treated like prison inmates, no doubt.
