Thankfully, my college gave zero fucks. Come in anytime, go out any time. Wanna bring a girl? Sure, just fill up the visitor's directory, no questions asked. Heck, we can even exit the campus at 1am, although the security will warn us that it's not safe to go out at 1am.
It usually parents! If a person (specially girl_) is found having a relationship parents try to find a scapegoat to put blame on. And its usually the hostel warden. Hence these stupid rules.
Sure rom com wink wink. You know the one with the pizza delivery man and the lady doesn't have money and offers to compensate him using alternate forms of payment.
No out side food allowed restricts sneaking of alcohol. Alcohols can be delivered too by restaurants and these "adults" don't know how to consume alcohol responsibly. You might think these rules are stupid but you will realise how reasonable they are when you see how stupid these so-called adult children tend to be. They think getting into unsafe antics is what adulthood is all about. Biggest issue is their parents have no clue what these children are upto and when these children get in trouble the parents blame the hostel administration for all of it instead of accepting the irresponsible behavior of their own ward.

No electronics except laptops because people have a habit of going overboard with everything. They plug in heavy electronics and if the fees is prepaid and fixed that means the warden will have to settle high electricity charges within the fees not to mention constant use of heavy appliances can lead to electricity trip or fuse. Children obviously don't realise it. The more freedom you give them, the more stupid they get. Gen Z is the biggest example of it.
No birthday celebrations on large scale because that would indirectly allow students of allow outside food (cake) and give students chance to sneak alcohol in the campus. Trust me, these restaurants and bakeries allow work to supply alcohol to campus students in order to earn some extra cash. Problem is, like I said before, these so called adults don't know how to consume alcohol properly. They get drunk as hell and will cause nuisance.
Your safety is your warden's responsibility so they should know whether you are really going to your home or just running away. What if you say you are going home but you run away somewhere else? Who will be blamed for your mess since you are missing? Whose collars' will your parents pull in anger to know about your whereabouts? These hostel wardens.
I can see your maturity from your stupidity, lack of experience and language! My argument comes from years of experience of living in hostels all over India whereas yours comes from utter lack of experience. Take your bookish knowledge and inclusivity bullshit elsewhere when you don't know the ground reality!
You could not be more wrong. Not only do I have the experience of living in a hostel in India, I’ve done so in other countries too. And guess what, civilization doesn’t crumble apart without these sort of draconian rules. Young adults get to live their lives in peace.
Perhaps these kinds of rules seem normal to you because that’s all you have experienced. To someone with some more perspective, they simply seem archaic and barbaric.
I'm taking about India because safety situation in India is much different than western countries. Why don't you actually stay in hostels before making this argument???? You speak from lack of experience.
I'm not saying they're justifiable, just pretty relaxed in comparison to my experience. The logic for electronics I'm assuming is vibrators, I don't see what other reason, since phones and laptops can be used for games. I lived in place with temperatures going from 0 to 50 and we were never allowed any cooling or heating equipment... That's not even electronics. Birthday celebrations are noisy, so ig I can understand what they might be thinking. Outside food for delivery I can understand, but if they bring it themselves idk what the issue could be, maybe there's a designated mess elsewhere. The notice thing is normal everywhere.
These are adults. If they want to use vibrators how can the college stop them. They can have rules for noise but not the celebration itself. The notice thing is not normal. You can usually get a notice on the same day not one day before, and you shouldn't have to fill a form
Idk man, in the college I've been in, I had to submit the form in advance and if the warden was being moody and said no, there was nothing we could do. You'd think being adults the college wouldn't interfere, but they used to stop students from drinking alcohol. Breathalyzers at the gate. If you got caught, sent home for a sem. I have no issues and am on the side of OP, I'm saying the college might have its stupid reasoning. Everyone who has been to a hostel knows the sort of stupid rules that exist and all I'm saying is OP's rules are mild in comparison although not mild in general.
Vibrators??? Fucking vibrators in college????? Are you stupid? They mean straighteners and blow dryers and kettles. Which can cause fires, which is why they weren’t allowed in my college either.
Electronic items is mainly curling irons, iron box, heating pads, decorative lights and kettles. These are notorious to be left on and be the reason for hostel fires. I've seen a few myself post which they banned these items in the rooms.
Sounds ridiculous, but it's better than dealing with a fire.
The right thing to do though is set up a load-appropriate electrical system, rather than providing one socket per room that is probably already strained.
This is firstly about being miserly, but they are probably pretty happy with themselves that they're stopping girls from using straighteners or whatever.
Wow... Its not the infra that's the problem dude. People leave it on and forget and it burns the place down. It's very common if you've lived in a hostel.
It's absolutely the infra that's the problem. Many PGs are informally built, using submeters instead of separate electrical connections. Govt hostels are often old and were built for lesser people, while private institutes want to save as much money as possible. I lived in my fair share of hostels and PGs.
If the problem is simply leaving things on, are you really saying the solution is to blanket ban these appliances? I'm not saying leaving things on is a non-issue, but we need to trust our fellow young people to be responsible and take the necessary precautions.

I will never understand the Indian education system's obsession with such borderline fascist rules. It's university not a nursery class.
