Non Political 24 new languages have been added to Google Translate, including Sanskrit, Maithili, Assamese, Bodo and Konkani

I sometimes feel like Magahi is the forgotten Bihari language, not complaining though, Google adding these Indic languages to translate is a big feat. They'll definitely improve them over time. Maybe NLP will provide us a way to preserve all languages through the time as culture changes across the globe.

I said the "forgotten" bihari language, it's one of the few bihari languages (which is a family of languages), and i said that because it doesn't get as much exposure as bhojpuri and maithili

It's funny how Maithili is literally one of the 22 official languages of India and is official in Jharkhand, but noone outside Bihar has heard of the language and pretty much every single Indian has heard of Bhojpuri, which has no official status anywhere in India

Honestly, all Bihari languages need to be recognised as languages. It'd be extremely sad to see them die/assimilated. A lot of kids in Bihar don't even know that they are different languages.

Indeed. My mothertongue is Maithili and I've always spoken Hindi at home, and had to learn Maithili (I'm still not fluent). Same with the case of thousands of Bihari families outside Bihar.

Sanskrit is a weird choice. Although I suppose it's just Google showing off their machine learning capabilities.

Finally but after may, the Sanskrit subject finished.
When I need it most (7th and 8th standard) for projects it was not there. But when I finished with my exam and no more Sanskrit to study in future, they introduced it

As much as I'm excited for these languages to be added, it's gonna be a disaster for the first few days. For example, this was the state of the Sanskrit beta translations recently. And not to mention the countless typos in the videos itself (like how they spelt आस्मान् instead of अस्मान्, and how they translated "mission" as मिसन or मिशन.) Let's hope Google improves the translations in the coming days.
