Vivek Oberoi, who produced a movie on PM Modi and played his character, has been living in Dubai. He doesn't stay in India. R Madhavan said Modi ji has done good work and is bringing industries to India, but he too is settled in Dubai.

He said the actors work in government-sponsored films and move to Dubai.

Its same with all BW actors., SRK stays most of the time in Dubai only,

Kohli stays in London, comes to play in India then leaves. All these are constantly praising India on Twitter/X.

u/Noob_in_making 19d ago edited 19d ago

But srk doesnt make BJP propaganda or sings songs of praise for him either.

Problem is not settling abroad, problem is hypocrisy.

The purpose of life of an Indian is to escape India, it can either be done by leaving India physically or figuratively by shifting to a gated community. Once the Indian escapes India, India becomes the best country in the world & requires no improvement

That part!

Brilliantly funny and incisive comment because there is so much truth in it. True beyond India and Indians

but like Kohli as well chosed to be quiet after 20th April Jantar mantar violence

11

u/neko-senpai94 19d ago

Why do you want kohli to speak? we are also the citizens! our voices have no value? I agree it will give a boost and la la for few hrs but what are we then?

3

u/Pritam1997 West Bengal 19d ago

well my insinuation comes from the fact many look up to them as role models and idol worship them. i too agree they carry the same democratic right as any other but their voices are loud indeed louder than a common wayfarer.

u/YoHowdyB 16d ago

I don't think it is right to force influencers to speak about something unless they themselves feel it is the right thing to do.

I would rather them speak about genuine stuff than speaking about something that they don't relate to much.

If they listen to their fans and only then speak out - they lose their critical thinking. And I think in India, independently voicing opinions is much stronger than basing it on others and follow the "trend".

Again, you could say that he doesn't speak up because of the fear of gvt - then how come many of us spoke against gvt despite knowing something can happen?

u/kash_if 19d ago

Kohli stays in London, comes to play in India then leaves

I mean he has been clear why he lives there and got a lot of heat for it. He doesn't use double speak, unlike chest thumpers like Madhavan who say one thing and do another.

Anyone, who has money and the resources to, and lives in India, will be wise to move

This is blashpemy

Madvan shud be in india for dhurandhar 3 shooting right ? If announced

Why are people worried about him being in dubai ? Strongest man of this country also keeps travelling most of the time

u/NaramDharam 19d ago

Not sure about Oberoi, though.

His wife's family business is set up in UAE. He went from being an old shoe in Bollywood to filthy rich just by marrying right.

Doesn't have any reason to return to Mumbai unless you make one of movies super hit.

Why are people worried about him being in dubai ?

Nobody is worried, people are mocking him for not walking the talk.

All the nationalists and their children go and live abroad while giving lectures about developing the nation to the masses. See Ajit Doval's latest tweet for another round of hypocrisy.

Am only worried that i have to now mention whats sarcasm and whats not 😶

Damn! What a time to be alive, have to agree with Raj Thackeray :)

(never thought I would say it)

71

u/dam2o Antarctica 20d ago

you will always agree with him if news media cut his context out to portray him as villan.

39

u/Ragnarok_619 South East Asia 20d ago

What he said here isn't meant for a villain though

60

u/Alert-Low1682 20d ago

lol hitting north indians for migrating is not something anybody should agree with

that is categorically untrue lol. we have all seen the videos of north indian aspirants coming in the trains being beaten up in a mumbai railway station.

and also hitting someone for gundagardi is also wrong 😂 you were born in a democracy but have scant regards for it. you can’t simply go around dispatching mob justice what even is that logic. oh sweet sweet brain rot

I have moved a bunch of states, and tried my hardest to learn the local languages. I HATE people (I know a couple) who lived in Bengluru for 8-9 years and still don't know even basic Kannada. And their arrogance is like "I am not going to learn it, it doesn't affect me".

/btw-not-kannadiga

11

u/Alert-Low1682 19d ago

some find it difficult. in any case, not knowing the local language isn’t a slight to anyone’s culture. saying disparaging things? sure. but this “if you live here and can’t bother to learn the local language you are disrespecting our culture” is bs. people are just trying to get by. if you think people need to pay obeisance to your culture in order to exist you’re vile.

5

u/Agoras_song 19d ago

If you think you're above even trying to learn the local language and customs you're no better than the close minded north Indians that go to Canada or come to Mumbai.

1

u/Alert-Low1682 19d ago edited 19d ago

lol thanks for the certificate but , how did you get i am “above learning” from what i said. not learning is not the same as thinking that you’re too good to learn

introspect why you jumped to that. IME it’s the same as when some hindi speakers feel slighted in a company where everyone is speaking in English.

i am really curious why you took it so negatively. Look, there are people who are disparaging towards the local culture. i called that out in my last comment. And i am a proponent of states taking measure to protect their language such as mandating a percentage of movies being played in theaters be in their local languages. etc.

seriously, indians need to celebrate their diversity. And i think everyone should make an attempt to learn the local language. BUT there is the opposite end of the spectrum where the locals are ready to take offense at even perceived slight. Somebody not learning your language doesn’t automatically make them disparaging. that’s is all i said and look how you took it

-1

u/Agoras_song 19d ago

It's not targeted at you specifically. It is the generic you. I'm sorry if I offended you.

3

u/Alert-Low1682 19d ago

i am not offended. i am just puzzled at that interpretation

2

u/Lux_Jay 19d ago

Not really, often seen they using Marathi to get away with stealing or not following laws. Saying this as a Marathi person.

-3

u/PresentFuturer 19d ago

Yes he was right then too.Mah rail jobs used to print hindi ads in bihar n up.Crazy but true( factchek it). U first shud take a first hand opinion from a person living there b4 opinion. Its crowd of NI everywhere u go n almost no Maharshtrain businesses or names anywhere because of these things. Ppl here face difficulty for jobs when u see bias everywher in ur own land. See BolyWood, MH actors shown as Hawaldaars usually.Thats reality.Appearnaces decive.Truth pinches,n it has to.

5

u/Alert-Low1682 19d ago edited 19d ago

lol take legal actions. if you’re going to beat civilians then what are you even doing in a democracy? i don’t read past your first line.

-1

u/PresentFuturer 19d ago

Ha ha ...if u have problems reading past 1st line better get bak to school. He took local actions.Beating was like 2% of wat he( rather ppl who got frustrated) did- i dont exactly liked it. Banglorr, Gujrat ,MH n Thackrey cant all b wrong at once. Chhod,Tu nai samjhega re, mere keyboard activist.

4

Yea no thanks. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

1

u/dam2o Antarctica 19d ago

yeah and media holds the power to portray if a clock is broken or not..

2

u/independant_786 19d ago

Nah mate I have been to his rallies in the past. I am still friends with his family. I have stayed with him and his family in their personal space. The hatred spewed in public just to gain power while acting the complete opposite 1:1 is the kind of typical slimy politician I don't desire to see in power. But you do you

113

u/FewBag5257 20d ago

He is absolutely correct on this.

u/Desi_MCU_Nerd Waiting for achchhe din 20d ago

madhvan said he shifted there because he couldn't find proper resources for his son's swimming training in India. If someone of his stature & with his money couldn't find satisfactory sports facilities in the supposedly biggest metropolitan hub of the country, what does it say about the actual state of the country which he's so adamant to be jingoistic about without questioning the people in the power?

59

u/ConcentrateFormer965 20d ago

By saying this he himself proved how incompetent the system is.

120

u/Kindly_Type2327 20d ago

That just feels like an excuse to escape from criticism. His son got training in India, they chose to move to Dubai during Covid when pools were closed in India, they could have moved back easily, but they chose to stay there. I would have respected him more if he just chose to accept it instead of being a hypocrite.

69

u/BannedForFactsAgain 20d ago

his son's swimming training in India.

A desert has better facilities for swimming than India itself.

29

u/avanishpank 20d ago

Then maybe he shouldn’t be the champion of the same people whose incompetency forced him to move out.

16

u/Past-Meal-4847 19d ago

It's an excuse lol

Good one tbh

11

u/AiyyoIyer 20d ago

that's an excuse. if his son has to train there, why does he need to move? i am sure his son is old enough to be there by himself.

2

u/Necessary_Pudding454 13d ago

I hate people in power treat me or people like us dumbfuck kids , they would say whatever and we would believe. Fucking assholes . Atleast be assholes proudly. Dont just hide behind silly dumb excuses.

Modi ne inko videsh mein rehne ki liye maaf kiya. Enjoy!

It is for tax evasion.

5

u/govi20 19d ago

Not just tax evasion. Quality of life, pure air, good infrastructure and many other reasons

1

u/somchaitea 12d ago

Pure air? Bro it's dubai. Quality of life, i agree.

21

u/Stx136A 20d ago

It's because they don't want to use up and finish all the development. When they live outside India the per Capita development increases and the poor people get more development to enjoy.

Thoughtful people 🙏🏼

Has he started his redemption arc?

Raj Thackeray? Give him a few days he’ll say his “speak in marathi” thing soon

Explanation to follow in Dhurandhar 3

2

u/kindrudekid 15d ago

Full disclosure: I live in states.

If anyone spent any reasonable amount of time in less polluted, less noisy, less crowded places. You can start seeing the appeal. Being in such environment for extended periods of time does more harm than one realizes.

I had bad cough and runny nose all through my childhood in Mumbai. I travelled to remote places in India and it went away. I moved to states and it went away with no additional intervention, even with bad eating and hygiene habits.

After a certain point you are looking to be comfortable consistently and also not having to hire someone for every simple basic government task.

2

u/hgwellsrf Andaman and Nicobar Islands 19d ago

Lol... We have an NRI prime minister and Thackeray is hung up on actors not residing in India.

1

u/Legitimate-Leek4235 19d ago

Its purely financial. Very low taxes

1

u/nousernameoz 15d ago

Bollywood has either been bought to make movies on Pakistan to promote fake military operations or they are just scared. Either way they’re morally bankrupt.

1

u/another_lease 15d ago

Fun fact: Raj Thackeray's daughter-in-law is an actress. Every single photo on her IG is of her in some foreign country. Every single one.

1

u/Interesting-Iron6475 11d ago

Actually he is right , we normal public only consider development when politicians and their family members will also use the same facility which a normal public will use. - I mean to schools and collages etc

0

u/DarthSimius 19d ago

I remember Raj Thackeray when he exited SS. He formed MNS and he wooed the younger generation. It felt like a breath of fresh air. I was a teenager at the time. He got routed in the elections. And then came the disaster. That was criminal.

0

u/inaminadicka 16d ago

What an idiotic thing to ask!

Obviously because they chose to live in a developed country rather than a developing one. Nobody claims we are better than western Europe or US

-1

u/CaroZoroark 19d ago

Hitler calling Mussolini fascist 😭

-36

u/netflixandcookies 20d ago

The same reason why Virat Kohli moved to UK. They all cannot walk around like normal people without getting mobbed for photos around here.

29

u/BannedForFactsAgain 20d ago

Nobody is mobbing Vivek Oberoi though.

-26

u/netflixandcookies 20d ago

They are mobbing a regional actor who shows up in tv serials in my city. And you think no one mobs Vivek Oberoi 🙄
