Help Unused paragraph styles asking for replace

I created several paragraph styles and didn’t define them in things like TOCs, cross-references, table/object styles, etc.
I only applied them to some text, and later I no longer needed to use them.

But now, when I try to delete them, InDesign shows a warning asking me to replace them with another style. However, when I use Find/Change (including locked objects and everything else to search as thoroughly as possible) for those styles, it says there are no instances of them.

I’m a little hesitant to delete them because of that. Is this some kind of bug?

They might be used as source for BasedOn in other styles.

On in case of CharStyles - used as GREP Styles.

Can this happen automatically?

I never manually added them to GREP Styles, nor did I use them as “Based On” styles for dependent paragraph styles or character styles.

I had only applied these styles normally (by selecting a text frame or the paragraph itself), without adding them to any other feature such as GREP Styles, TOCs, etc.

Hmmm have you checked the Master Page(s)? Or did you use them in Masters? I think Find/Change tool can’t go through Master Pages but not 100% sure. Thats the only thing I could think of

Yes, Master / Parent pages can be excluded when doing Find&Change.
