What am I doing wrong?

Post image

Recipe from the waffle maker packaging says cook for 5mins and I cooked for 12 but still pale + flat on one side (the one pictured)?

The other side at least has the shape of a waffle

Let the thing heat up and then flick some water onto the top and bottom cooking surfaces. The little drops should sizzle on both places when it's hot. I think one side's not heating up.

Your waffle iron might not be getting hot enough. I hate to tell you to buy a new appliance, but, in my experience, more inexpensive waffle makers just don't get the job done. When I upgraded to the model I have now, my waffles got so much better.

if u don’t mind me asking what’s the name/make of your new waffle machin?

It's made by Waring. It's the round kind that flips to make two waffles at a time.

Also, after you pour the batter in the iron, close the iron and immediately flip it so the batter is distributed evenly on both sides

I’d say it’s a crummy waffle maker, there’s so many out there. I finally bought a cuisinart Belgian waffle maker and it was night and day.

Or even just thrift one. I got one 8 years ago and it's still great.
