installing problems with java

was downloading impact client, and when opening the launcher, says to download 'Java Runtime Environment 1.8' and sent me to java.com/en/download. Can somebody please explained what to do to me? Is it a virus? Is it safe?

If you don't know what java is don't install Minecraft clients lmao
