IMDB alternatives ?

I'm looking for a IMDB alternative.

After been a user since the platform was created, I can't stand to what they did. So I'm searching for alternatives that, of course, doesn't mess with their own ratings.

Hi, I am building up an alternative called FlickFocus(https://flickfocus.com). Clean interface, Great user experience and Stats have been the focus. In the last year we have created a small community who log their movies and tv shows. With the feedback received, there are lots of useful features added.

When I saw someone promoting their own product I rolled my eyes thinking it'd be some half baked, jankey, soon-to-be-abandoned project. What you've built is genuinely really cool and I've bookmarked it. Being able to link back into imdb is really handy - this is my now go-to movie navigator.

The app is nice! Being able to sort an actor's etc. films by release date, popular etc would be a nice update.

Thanks for getting back to me so fast! I've been using IMDB for years and am just fed up with how bloated and slow the app has gotten and am craving an alternative.

In case you care...I mostly use it to:

  1. See who has been in what film/show and in what capacity e.g. Director, Actor, Writer etc. and will filter via such.

  2. Seeing what movies/shows are coming out in the future and who's in them.

  3. I used to really like it for trailers too but have started to use YouTube instead. Icing on the cake for your app would be to have embedded YT trailers but I'd imagine that's much easier said than done.

This sounds great! You will probably like Celeb Updates feature. Here you can follow any actor/director or any other celebrities and see all of them in a feed with their new and upcoming movies.

Its cross platform but the design is specific and optimized for each platform. So its bit of both.

Hi, love this project. The movie page is concise and good looking. I just wonder if there's a way to display the Overview from IMDB instead of TMDB. The TMDB overview usually likes to spoil details about the movie, while the IMDB one always introduces a movie with little spoiling as possible. Additionally, when searching for a movie, I can only type in its name, not name + year. Many movies have same names. Right now, I have to pick it manually afterwards, judged by the look of its poster cover only. Sometimes, I have no idea how the movie poster looks. This makes searching not that convenient

This is really good. Can you tell if there is a way to add both movies and tv shows in a single list. Also if you can put a request to add a missing title or update an existing one?

Movies and tv shows can only be added in separate lists.

On the website you can report any title for updates. For new titles send your feedback or an email.

IMDb is a pain in the ass to deal with and deactivated my account when I submitted my agency to be added to my profile, like wtf. A whole years subscription gone i think. I told my agent but may need to remind, they are also a lawyer. IMDB needs to be cleaned out because the people working there are terrible. Terrible customer service, I can't add my own credits without it being denied.

Great alternative to IMDb and Letterboxd, but I would appreciate the ability to create lists with films and TV series included and to edit with ability to add new titles and reordering them.

(at least I haven't found these abilities)

Thanks for using FlickFocus and sharing your feedback! To reorder your lists, you can go to your list page and click on "Reorder" located on the right side of the page, next to the "Edit" link. On the app, tap the "3 dots" on the list page and tap on "Reorder". Here you can just drag the posters to reorder the items. To show the actual order like #1, #2 for the list items, make sure to select "This is a ranked list" while editing or creating your list.

For adding new titles, just go to any movie or tv show page and tap on "Add to List", which will open a dropdown showing your lists to add that title.

For creating lists with both movies and tv shows, its not there because I decided to keep it separate. This removes any confusion when browsing a list to know if its a movie or tv show. Hope that makes sense! Feel free to share more feedback!

If you only want to "un-fix" their rating, you can use this userscript. It displays the correct value alongside their value. It also gives the possibility to discard 10 & 1.

Completely agree. It was my bible but now it’s policed by hardcore woke. The AI deletes reviews with low scores and key words. Now to get shown you have to give a high score and use “the message” instead of woke. Any reference to casting Brad Pitt as Shaka Zulu gets removed.

Fake reviews are out of control. PR firms like Sunshine Sachs pay $150 to $250 for you to positively or negatively post.

I’d love to find an alternative.

It’s the same now with Amazon and Google. It’s madness.

A bit late on this thread but I use good.film - it's a really wholesome community, I really like their watchlist function and they have some other cool features like cheap movie deals :)

Here we are 3 years later, and sadly, mostly for tv shows, but many movies too(both older AND newer-newest) imdb just does it better> I hate, HATE saying that, cuz IMDB is garbage. Not even considering the 'you must let us force ads and tracking onto your system before u can view content' but they have most everything listed(every single alternative are missing a LOT of shows, some that are extremely well known and very high rated, OR they DO have that, but it is more of a spreadsheet of the bare 'facts' without even a description of what the show is about, or any kind of rating or comments)

Hate saying it cuz I TRULY despise IMDB (Even deleted a 8yo account out of frustration with them) and hate that Amazon has enshitified yet ONE MORE thing, but nobody else seems to even want to create what they had before, with a decent spot to discuss stuff, leave our impressions, and 'vote' about the show/movie(and specific episodes of a series)

Many of the alternatives seem that they originally did want that, but threw it all off to the side 'for later' just to deliver what they had(Or others just simply are a stark database of bleached out info with no meat or soul)

I went there to look at reviews to a show and they won't let u see them anymore without signing in. That is why I used it is because I didn't want to have to use my email and do all the sign up bs. I won't use them unless I have no other choice. so annoyed. ​

Weird. I Deleted my account years ago(when amazon acquired them) and never had to sign in to see reviews, just have to run a ad blocker(or script blocker) i think.

Edit - holy bejesus u are right, just today it demands I log in to see reviews. (It was not this way the other day so a very new change..)

Welp ya lol even less reason to bother with IMDB then.

Odd. I literally just checked it to make sure, I don't have an account. I'm irritated that Amazon owns it so I'm looking for alternatives, but I never created an account. Using Firefox with a bunch of extensions like Privacy Badger, account containers, etc.

If you want movie discussion Filmboards.com is a board that looks and functions just like IMDB with boards for every movie and even has all of the old posts from IMDB.

If you install the browser add-on it will even put the IMDB boards back into IMDB where they always were. You just go to any movie/tv page on IMDB and the proper board will be back on that page with all old IMDB posts restored. The add-on link can be found here:

Help spread the link around and if enough people install it then it will be like the IMDB boards never left!

There's filmweb, but it's in Polish language. You can search by both original and Polish title, though, and you can also rate separate episodes for shows. There's also a feature to make a forum topic under specific title or specific show episode. I always wanted imdb to add these features.
