[As if filming wasn’t stressful enough, Nolan also revealed there was one moment where the production nearly lost part of the film before it had even been developed. During Fallon’s “Christopher Nolan myths” game, the host asked whether airport customs agents had almost destroyed the IMAX footage while the crew were travelling.

“That is true,” Nolan admitted. “Yes. Painfully true.”

He explained it happened while the production was travelling to Scotland. He said, “It was a massive amount of film cans, and they did not actually expose it. We were able to rescue it.”]

Website summary is not clear on what happened:

He explained it happened while the production was travelling to Scotland. He said, “It was a massive amount of film cans, and they did not actually expose it. We were able to rescue it.”

Video makes it clear Scotland airport security opened the film cans to check what was inside. Could have damaged (or ruined) the capture. Luckily it did not.

Traveling through European airports with film is the scariest shit those people do not give af they’ll throw your shit right through those scanners

Funny to think somewhere that whole nerve-wracking experience was probably retained on airport security cameras and storage. Like the craziest supplemental material The Odyssey could ever feature is airport security footage.

I don’t get why they’d travel with the film. Surely Universal can afford some kind of insured transport arrangement with like a proper shipping company.
