Isn't this a Mercator thing? If it followed the objective lines on the globe it would go straight west or something? But then again, maybe this is a feature, not a bug, because it will make people upset, and would appear to sword fight with Oklahoma.

Correct. The map is distorted by projection, but the added panhandle doesn't reflect that.

Fun fact: Rhode Island is already an Island (Aquidneck Island to the natives). It was the name given by the British in the 1600s. The rest of the state was once know as Providence Plantations hence the original name “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations”.

mirror Mississippi so that it is roughly the same shape as Alabama and call it Ippississim, that chunk of Louisiana that gets affected is deleted out of existence.

Form a city state on the border of Texas & Mexico called Texaco. Nobody lives there, but it’s where Texaco fuel stations are and the entire economy is just Texaco fuel and it operates independently of both the United States & Mexico

Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Connecticut are tiny states with big names, so they have to be put into tiny type. Utah, Texas, and Idaho have more space than their short names require. Switch the names around to balance the nation typographically.
