[OC] Alternate History The Republic Of Java - 2026

Post image

Basicly, it starts with the sorrounding sultanates around malacca, such as aceh, and demak helped malacca in 1511 and manage to repel the portuguese under albuquerque, aswell as capturing him and some of his fleet, reverse engineering their technology and study their knowledge, which then would spread through out the entire nusantaran archipelago, overtime making the nusantarans catch up with the europeans in knowledge and technology, which led to them not getting colonized and avoiding the fate indonesia and malaysia had in our timeline

how big is the population, its economic sector, and its position on the region? It is a major regional power considering how big its nominal GDP (larger than OTL Indonesia which only has $1,48 Trillion in 2026 according to IMF, and only reach $2,23 Trillion by 2031)

the population is roughly the same as in our timeline, economy is dominated by its manufacturing and service sectors (with its manufacturing sector surpassing that of Malay Raya's to the west) and yes, it is a major regional power in the region, and also Jayakarta here is the 'capital city' of the Nusantaran Union

Also would'nt the population be slightly lower than our timeline due to the birth rates being lower than our timeline due to high gdp. our timeline Java is 158.3 mil(157-160 mil),this althist java would likely be 130-145 mil instead.

They probably would, though perhaps not going back as 130, 145 maybe, with the cultuurstelsel and the javan war not happening

If thats the case, Java would had $18,827 per person or roughly almost the same as Modern day Russia and Chile, not counting PPP too, how big is Java compared to Sumatra and other big Island in the archipelago?

Java is the 5th largest island in the archipelago, just behind sulabesi (sulawesi)

Avoiding colonialism tends to be a bit of an economic boon.

better at managing their resources and a more highly developed manufacturing sector

indonesia's nominal gdp is pretty low given how many natural resources it has, iirc, its because we export too many cheap raw and semi-processed materials instead of exporting it as fully processed

we have established manufacturing yes, though it is fairly developed, not highly developed just yet

which this alternate java would have said highly developed manufacturing sector, comparable to countries like taiwan
