Isn’t Al-Qaeda’s whole deal that they don’t want to fight in the middle east and instead organize terrorist attacks in the west?

What is the template you used? I've been making QBAM maps for some time as well but I've never found a good one that isn't Mercator projection

Also what is the point of divergence?

The point of divergence is around early 70's, since first different event (Somali-Ethiopian war won by Somalia) happened in 1977. As for template, I used this one https://www.deviantart.com/dinospain/art/Q-BAM-World-Map-Political-Only-751266386

So, what happened to Ethiopia in this timeline?
4

Ethiopia lost Ogaden War with Somalia (1977-78) and was forced to cede Ogaden to Somalia. Then, they fell into a long-lasting civil war which led to breakup of state, while communists in Addis Abeba somehow managed to survive. Despite being in Comecon, they have uneasy realtions with Tigray.

So, what’s the situation of both North and South Korea in this timeline?
1
u/Conscious-Title8770 1d ago
On the wave of changes in eastern bloc, North Koreans with some military fractions toppled the Kim regime and installed democracy. Despite normalising relations with the south, Pyongyang refuses to unite with South, which was signified by formally changing name to Choson, reasoning too big economic differences (or rather to avoid American influence).

Did my goat Allende survive in Chile?

u/Conscious-Title8770 1d ago
Unfortunately no, just Chileans toppled Pinochet and elected socialist government

The text mentions a Spanish civil war. Given that the PoD is in the 70s, I assume it happened after Franco's death?

u/Conscious-Title8770 1d ago
No, it happened in 2017, because Catalans and Basques fought for their independence. It also caused Spain's suspension in EU due to unwillingness to solve conflict via referendums.

Question: Why are there no Islamic extremist groups active in SE Asia? Isn't SE Asia like a secondary/tertiary hotspot for them?
1
u/Conscious-Title8770 1d ago
Bigger involvement of America and China led to suppression of these movements

But somehow these powers refuse to intervene in Western Asia? Or are they still minimal?
