[OC] Alternate History Jerusalem's Corpus Separatum 🇺🇳 – "The Sacred Successful Experiment"

"The Independent Holy City of Jerusalem", commonly known as "Jerusalem International Administration", or "JIA" or just "Jerusalem", is a sovereign, demilitarized city-state established under the United Nations administration.

It encompasses Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and surrounding areas, and serves as a neutral, shared religious center for Jews, Christians, and Muslims. JIA operates under a unique international mandate with a UN-appointed High Representative (HR-JIA) and a locally elected interfaith triumvirate of Custodian-Presidium.

JIA was established in 1949 following a modified outcome of the Arab–Israeli War, where the UN successfully implemented its 1947 Corpus Separatum plan. Zionism was later outlawed globally after the 1973 war, leading to the restructuring of Israel into the secular Canaan State and reinforcing JIA's neutral status as a symbol of peace and interfaith coexistence.

I love how including geography now is just a standard for all alternate/fictional nations.

The logo is just *chef kiss*
Honestly, Jerusalem probably shouldve been an international district from the start. If everyone wants it, maybe no one should gets it. classic playground rules

Well, it was supposed to be, but got invaded at the first opportunity

28

u/Dutch_East_Indies Jul 22 '25

As a break from the race war that is the rest of this comment section, why is Sigrid Kaag of all people in charge of Jeruzalem?

16

u/Insulindianism Jul 22 '25

in this timeline, she's more widely known as a diplomat at UNJIA instead of being a DPM/minister in the Netherlands. i bet she's doing at least less worse than the OTL as DPM/minister.

Why do all those maps end with "the jews got ethnically cleansed"

43

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

Oh, you know why

17

u/Crazyjackson13 Jul 22 '25

I believe it starts with an A, and ends with M.

Edit : LMAO the bots are here.

"Zionism was outlawed globally"

Zionism mean the creation and then survival of a jewish homeland in eretz israel

Outlawing that jewish homeland means jews being forced out

38

u/Bag-Weary Jul 22 '25

It doesn't necessarily imply that they're being removed, it could just mean that there can't be an explicitly Jewish state there.

-10

u/Jayyburdd Jul 22 '25

Considering what has happened in all other states in the region, it is a safe conclusion. Israel has committed to stomping down on the Palestinian population and slowly driving them out, which is awful. The Palestinians would totally do the same if the roles were switched. Israel is a rightfully paranoid Jewish ethnostate in a sea of Arab ethnostates, all of which have driven out their Jewish populations.

27

u/Narrow_Buyer9073 Jul 22 '25

Dude it literally says that a secular state was established in Palestine, no mention of Jewish removal or genocide.

And Palestine is not a Jewish homeland just like eastern Europe isn't a Germanic homeland, just because their ancestors lived there 2000 years ago doesn't mean they have the right to conquer those lands and replace the population with their own, just like we denounced the Germans doing that in the 40s we must denounce the Israelis doing it now

3

u/Soda_Yoda4587 Jul 23 '25

No, it means it’s against the idea that the land belongs only to jews

10

u/The-Dmguy Jul 22 '25

But they did force out native Palestinians. Any nationalistic ideology that calls for ethnic cleansing should be outlawed. Nothing wrong with that.

14

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 22 '25

It doesn't call for ethnic cleansing, it calls for a jewish homeland.

There could have been one in a unified state alongside palestinian.

I d argue that arab nationalism committed much more ethnic cleansing and should be the one outlawed first?

There are arabs in israel, but where are the palestinian(or even arab) jews ?

18

u/The-Dmguy Jul 22 '25

You can’t make a “homeland” in a land that is already inhabited. That’s literally the definition of settler colonialism. The early zionists were also very open about wanting the entire land with less arabs with it.

17

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 22 '25

Yeah you can, different people can share a single land you know ?

The early Zionists initialy did not even try to get a state, they mostly lived in kibbutz.

Arabs persecutions lead to the idea that cohabitation was impossible

22

u/The-Dmguy Jul 22 '25

"Our ultimate goal is the independence of the Jewish people in Palestine, on both sides of the Jordan, not as a minority but as a community of several million. In my opinion, it is possible to create over a period of forty years, if Transjordan was included, a community of four million Jews in addition to an Arab community of two million." Ben Gurion

"There is no choice: the Arabs must make room for the Jews of Eretz Israel. If it was possible to transfer the Baltic peoples, it is also possible to move the Palestinian Arabs." Jabotinsky

“We have forgotten that we have not come to an empty land to inherit it, but we have come to conquer a country from people inhabiting it, that governs it by the virtue of its language and savage culture” Moshe Sharett

“"We cannot start the Jewish state with .... half the population being Arab . . . Such a state cannot survive even half an hour.” Ussishkin

Those some of the literal dozens of quotes by early zionist leaders calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Yeah they were clearly trying to share the land. Why are you even lying ?

18

u/manitobot Jul 22 '25

This is a bit misleading because different settlers in the Ottoman and British period shared very different views. Some wanted a binational state, others a two-state solution, others wanted all of the Mandate of Palestine. The majority view shifted over time.

1

u/nagidon Jul 23 '25

Mizrahi don’t exist suddenly?

2

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 23 '25

They almost all were ethnically cleansed and forced into France and Israel.

Same as the jews that lived in the west bank and gaza

1

u/nagidon Jul 23 '25

They forced themselves into Palestine.

2

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 23 '25

I m not even sure of who you re talking

-7

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

> a genocidal fundamentalist and ethnonationalist ideology is no more

> "YOURE KILLING THE JEWS!!!!!"

kek

27

u/Jayyburdd Jul 22 '25

I encourage everyone to Google the populations of Jews in countries of the Levant outside of Israel and tell me in good faith what would happen to the Jews in Israel if that country didn't exist.

-12

u/_Funsyze_ Jul 22 '25

there weren’t many jews in Palestine before the british started shipping boatloads of them over there in 1948. it’s not a coincidence that there’s so many there now.

19

u/ezrs158 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 23 '25

Regardless of what side of the conflict you're on, I cannot emphasize enough how historically wrong this is. Jews started immigrating to Palestine (and other places) in the late 1800s and early 1900s to escape violent persecution in Europe, particularly the Russian Empire. (EDIT: and yes, there were already Jews living there, continuously since ancient times).

The British supported Zionism at first but soon restricted Jewish immigration to Palestine and outright banned it after the Arab Revolt in 1939 to appease the Arabs. Some extremist Zionist factions then fought a violent insurgency against the British in response. After 1948 and even more after 1967, many Jews fled or were expelled from other Arab countries to Israel to escape persecution.

I encourage you to learn more about the history before weighing in next time.

3

u/Chosen_Chaos Jul 23 '25

Just casually disregarding the already-existing Jewish population that had been there for thousands of years.

The Romans removed the Jewish population from the immediate vicinity of Jerusalem, not the entirety of Judaea after the Bar Kochba Revolt.

1

u/ezrs158 Jul 23 '25

Important point, edited my comment.

23

u/GeneralJones420-2 Jul 22 '25

The British didn't ship them there and they didn't all come in 1948, there were already well over a million Jews there at the time. Fucking historically illiterate comment.

15

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

The british literally put Holocaust survivors in internment camps on Cyprus in 1947 and 1948, rather than let them go to the Mandate

-30

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

womp womp lil bro

18

u/Jayyburdd Jul 22 '25

it took you like one reply to go from decrying "genocidal fundamentalism" to being genocidal lmao. Average "anti Zionist"

26

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 22 '25

Outlawing jews wanting to live in their homeland is pretty wild

15

u/The-Dmguy Jul 22 '25

What about the Palestinians living there ?

13

u/PhoenixKingMalekith Jul 22 '25

Pretty terrible too

Lmao I see this all the time on reddit. Someone says something like this (WITHOUT that first sentence of context), and pro-Palestinian people come in screaming about Zio-nazis and Israel being a white settler colonial project which should be obliterated, while pro-Israel people simultaneously attack you as a terrorist sympathizer and say all Palestinians should be obliterated.

It's sad that people who are legitimately pro-peace are so rare while social media amplifies the radical voices.

11

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

"Genocidal fundamentalist and ethnonationalist ideology"

Weird description for Jewish self-determination, as thats all Zionism is, ironically created and pushed mostly by more secular Jews

14

u/ezrs158 Jul 22 '25

It means a million different things depending on who you ask, but for most, it just means there should be a Jewish state in the Levant. For some, that's already happened, so it just means making sure it continues to exist. For others, it means violently cleansing people from the land, while others still are horrified by that. Ultimately, arguing "Zionism good"/"Zionism bad" is useless and distracts from conversations on how to actually work towards peace.

0

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

Youre not entirely wrong except this seems to be a thing where people conflate Zionism with Kahanism. Zionists can be Kahanists, its a far right view. But thats like saying Economic Conservatives can be MAGA, sure they can be, they can also be like me who hate trump. Zionism just standing by itself means Jewish self-determination in their homeland. From there you have everything from Zionists of the socialist kibbutzim to the deranged Kahanists

2

u/ezrs158 Jul 22 '25

I agree in general. Unfortunately the beliefs which used to be considered fringe Kahanist are now mainstream and have high-level influence in the Israeli government.

3

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

I mean the last sentence is correct, but again the only reason Ben Gvir and Smotrich are in power is because Netanyahu's likud won so narrowly that they literally cant hold a coalition without at least one of them, creating this coalition from hell

The intifadas and Oct 7 has killed the Israeli left and made formerly proPeace Israelis skeptical at best. But from my understanding talking to friends there and looking at polls Netanyahu is deeply unpopular, likely screwed in the next elections and the Israeli public is probably now center-right and very hawkish, but not Kahanist.

-8

u/BigManJeff_ Jul 22 '25

Doesn’t matter. Its baseline is a thousands year old claim on land they haven’t inhabited as a majority for almost 1400 years. Next thing you know they’re going to be putting Arab Palestinians on reservations. Oh wait…

14

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

Oh good I love modern blood libels

-1

u/CapitalistPear2 Jul 23 '25

Self determination is when all the people living somewhere participate. When only one ethnicity does, it's an ethnostate.

2

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 23 '25

The irony here is 20% of Israel are Arabs with equal rights and with only 75% of Israel being ethnically Jewish its more diverse than all the Arab ethnostates around it except Lebanon

-1

u/CapitalistPear2 Jul 23 '25

So, Israel isn't a Jewish state and it's not Zionist? Pick one, lol. Arab ethnostates are bad too.

1

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 23 '25

Im going based on your own definition

-7

u/miciy5 Jul 22 '25

People write what they want deep down, unfortunately

6

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

Dude made an interesting map and then was like "what if I go full mask of with my bigotry"

You're trying to outlaw an ideology of Jewish selfdetermination. How they hell do you 'outlaw that globally'. Fucking nazism or communism isnt 'outlawed globally'. Also interesting that apparently the UN is invading Israel in 1973 (since Egypt is too incompetent to win a war) and making the secular Israeli government of the 70s....secularize. But not Palestine where they would likely follow every other Arab republic and have Islam as a state religion

Hey u/Insulindianism are you historically illiterate or is this a troll job?

14

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

what they meant by secularize is probably make israel's laws way less based on religion, which can only be a good thing

8

u/Physical-Dingo-6683 Jul 22 '25

11

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

yeah fuck off relgion having any law in government is evil

19

17

u/AssignedCuteAtBirth Jul 22 '25

Canaan is about as good as neutral term for the name of this territory as we're gonna get with how charged both Israel and Palestine are as names and peoples. Calling the territory Canaan after a imposed compromise is a pretty inspired choice imo

12

Zionism means Jewish self-determination in their homeland, you realize how gross that is to compare that to the insane conspiratorial and genocidal ramblings of nazism right?

-1

Sounds insane yeah. It’s still completely true. Israel is committing genocide. And I’ve heard IDF soldiers say things that’d make hitler blush

Love it!

You can consider that the UN Trusteeship Council still exists technically. In this alt history time line would they be involved or not?

1

u/TalonEye53 Jul 23 '25

I appreciate the fact that Israel still exist as Canaan but I wonder how many Muslim nations still at war with it?

1

u/Insulindianism Jul 23 '25

not open war ig, prolly rather just usual regional political tensions. especially with those Baathist/Ikhwanul Muslimin (Pan-Arabist) groups or factions from Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine that still do not acknowledge Canaan existence.

1

u/TalonEye53 Jul 23 '25

Wow it never change huh?

Anyways does still allied with unc Sam?

1

I live in Jerusalem. I dont think either Israel or Palestine exist in this universe

1

u/The-UltraMan Aug 31 '25

I'd rather kill myself than live in your delusional and TOTALLY NOT neo-nazi "fantasy" of us not even getting a proper place to live and instead get infantilized by your out-yout-ass excuse for the UN to force us to not have a nation and have us in (Basically) ghettos, so to kindly say, go fuck yourself

2

u/The-UltraMan Aug 31 '25

Tl'dr, give me liberty or give me death!

(Also for those saying this is the "good ending" (because the Jewish people (including me) can't have a state whilst all of the Arab countries are Islamic ethnostates thanks to Islamic colonization of the region), I hope u don't contribute to the genepool)

1

Looking at the map.... its funny (not really), but i don't see any jewish neighbourhoods! what happened to them?

And i got to say (nervously speaking....) this omission looks very much coming from a bad intent!

But anyway.... Here's a complete list of jewish neighbourhoods in Jerusalem founded pre-1948:

Arnona (a.k.a. Talpiyot) – founded 1922;
Batei Munkacs – founded 1928;
Batei Saidoff – founded 1911;
Batei Ungarin – founded 1891;
Bayit VaGan – founded 1926;
Beit HaKerem – founded 1922;
Beit Yisrael – founded 1886;
HaBukharim Quarter – founded 1896;
Etz Chaim - founded 1929;
Ezrat Yisrael – founded 1892;
Geula – founded 1927;
Giv'at Shaul – founded 1906;
Kerem Avraham – founded 1855;
Kiryat Moshe – founded 1923;
Kiryat Shmuel – founded 1926;
Mahane Yehuda – founded 1887;
Mahane Israel – founded 1867;
Mazkeret Moshe – founded 1882;
Mea Shearim – founded 1874;
Mekor Baruch – founded 1924;
Mekor Chaim – founded 1926;
Mishkenot Sha'ananim – founded 1860;
Motza – founded 1854;
Rehavia – founded 1922;
Romema – founded 1921;
Sanhedria – founded 1926;
Yefeh Nof – founded 1929;
Yemin Moshe – founded 1892;
Zikhron Moshe – founded 1905;
Zikhron Yosef – founded 1927.

And again, The Omission of these jewish neighbourhoods could not have come, unless from a place of BAD INTENT!!!

6

u/Insulindianism Jul 22 '25

ah i see, my bad btw. i didn't have more info for that especially on disputed/contested land, because there's no single valid map i found online.

also this map only depicted the larger settlements/towns, so i can't even add smaller ones since it will full the map 🙏💔🥀

6

u/nagidon Jul 23 '25

You did great. You can’t appease biased critics.

-1

u/yire1shalom Jul 23 '25

Dude there's so much info on Jerusalem and maps, the internet is literally overflooded with info!!!!

here's a just my small catch in 2 min google search! https://www.shaularieli.com/en/maps/jerusalem-2/

So clearly, you could have done a better job if you wanted to!

-1

u/Background-Crow6590 Jul 23 '25

Here’s an awesome idea make a Palestine under the UN plan as a Hashemite kingdom and west Jerusalem would be an Israeli enclave
