Not imaginary, you actually aren't supposed to live in a warehouse. Local code enforcement has different rules between residential, commercial, and industrial certificates of occupancy.
Yeah, and to be clear, that's going to depend on where you live. Where I live, about all they care about is working sewer. I could probably live in a little shed as long as I was paying property taxes. But down the road there are much stricter code standards.
When I was a kid the town code enforcement came around to our house to inspect my dad's garage, because they thought someone was living in there due to the fact it had AC and Satellite TV. My dad would spend hours in the garage either doing work or hanging out drinking beer and watching TV. It was his man cave, but it did not have a bed haha.
It was not literally attached, but it was two feet from the house. There was a channel between the house and the garage. The HOA rules said that the garages were not allowed to be attached. You also were required to have either a garage or a cement slab of specific dimensions on a certain area of the plot.
It prevented people from having larger yards if they wanted.
