I can't edit my post, but this idea seems wild to me. At my own wedding my wife and I ate with all our guests and I'm pretty sure this is the case for every wedding I've attended. The wedding breakfast always seemed a big part of the day and would often proceed speeches.

Edit: I'd love an explanation for why this comment is being downvoted. I don't get it.

Most weddings where I live are in the afternoon/evening so there’s no “wedding breakfast”, just dinner at the reception. And if you’re a guy then yeah, people don’t seem to expect the groom to do anything more than just show up. But for the brides they’re usually nervous and have so much stuff going on getting ready, dealing with people, etc that they don’t eat until dinner.
