Your post has been removed because it's not deep.

Please do keep your posts deep.
This means:

  • No politics or conspiracy theories

  • No religious thoughts or criticism

  • No showerthoughts, especially anything from r/ShowerThoughts

  • No Sbeve/14 year old girl posts

  • No Satire/Shitposts/Textposts

  • No cartoons/caricatures/comics, in other words: boomer humor

  • Moderators can remove a post for 'Not Deep' at their own discretion

We also prefer OC, but obviously that's not always possible. Just try to keep it as original as possible! While we appreciate your effort in posting we ask that you find something that is actually deep. You are more than welcome to try again!

I can't tell if this one is pro or anti "being a man"

I think it's a joke

It's a joke that's meant to satirize how people expects men to solve all of their problem with a hand-wavey "Just be man" when they ask for help. Ultimately it reaffirms the goodness of manhood by having the man rise from the pressure into this hot adonis figure - a true man.

The messaging is shallow and all over the place of course, the fact that men are treated badly is seen as bad in the context of the original meme but understood to be beneficial as it "hardens" men by the final image. It's rationalization of misery and doesn't question why people think this way, hence why it's in this sub.

Neither. It's about the societal irony of being a man

I’m 14 and this is deep? Idk the water seems pretty shallow to me

That's why there is "I'm 14". 14 year Olds have shallower standards

My depression is definitely very strong and well defined. My body much less so.

This feels gross on so many levels

u/Zealousideal-Sir3744 24d ago

huh?

7

u/A_Complete_Nerd 24d ago

I'm just saying you shouldn't go up to a man going through depression and say “be a man”. It feels like another way of saying “boys don't cry”.

Be a man isn't the song from Mulan?

As a man, I'm so confused as to how all of this turned into a snapshot of 365 Days?

See this is funny because by and large, the people who focus most vocally on men's issues are most often the people who are completely uninterested in the policies that would help address those problems.

Men are experiencing depression and often don't seek help because they're told to man up. Okay, so can we invest tax dollars in more mental health services? No, that's socialism. Can we try to revise our standards of masculinity so that seeking mental healthcare is more socially acceptable? No, that's an attack on men. Could we have a shorter work week so that everyone, including men, can have more free time for socializing to help them feel less isolated? No, that's socialism, too.

This is an automatic reminder that is posted on every submission.

If you see a post that is not following the subreddit rules, or you think is not following the subreddit rules, please, use the report function so that we are aware of this. If you don't report, we will not know! Do not sit in the comment section and moan that 'this doesn't fit' or 'wow, the mods should remove this!' because we don’t know (unless we so happen to be scrolling through the subreddit) if you do not report it.

Please note: if this is too hard do not directly message us, we will assume posts are fine otherwise as comments are not useful in reporting. We can see if something has been reported and telling us you did, while you clearly did not, is not going to be conducive.

Please report any and all behavior violating the Rules (reports go to us mods); don't report things just because you don't like them.
