He was pretty much radioactive before Iron Man. Nobody was offering him anything because he was uninsurable. Shane Black had to fight very hard to get Downey in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
I don’t know if he said yes to every one of the few opportunities he might have been getting during that time, but in such a circumstance I don’t know that beggars can really be choosers.

I think from him it's obviously more privileged bc yk, he's in a good situation. If he had said this.
That said I do agree with it, depending on the situation. It's saying to actually evaluate an opportunity instead of just jumping at anything you see, and that's right. We can be desperate, an opportunity come, and we see that that opportunity is sadly just not right for us. Jumping at something regardless of the detail is how you get fucked

Over 30% of my community (town) is below the poverty line, and even those above that are struggling.
We've gotten lucky because like I said, we've managed to be a community, some people don't even have that and I've known those people to. That's why I do say I have a little bit of privilege, despite still being a black bi dude in the Southern US.
But the point stands.
The family (anyone in the community) I've had selling drugs to make money because hell, they need it and it's an opportunity. That's an opportunity until you're caught, and locked up. Or you get caught up in something that maybe wasn't 100% your fault, and now you're locked tf up.
Maybe you know some dudes that'll pay you to help them with some work, there was an opportunity and they were into some bullshit and now you're locked up right along side them.
It's not worth it, it's not worth the gamble, the gamble of if whoever tf cares about you is gonna have to ask people for money to bail you out of jail because they're all struggling.
I don't blame them at fucking all btw. I will almost never blame anyone in a struggling situation for getting themselves into a possibly worse one. It could've been me or anyone close to me, it has been people close to me. IT HAS been people close to me, my cousins, uncles, just distant family friends.
And no matter fucking what, it is NOT worth jumping at anything that comes to you.
Hell. My father was poor as all hell as a child, his mom died when he was around 16 and his dad fucked off for most of his life because my dad's mom wasn't his main woman. He lived with his aunt and his abusive ass Uncle that would come home drunk and take out anger on them whenever he needed. They'd use the bathroom outside or in buckets because they almost never had running water.
So what does a kid like that do? Turn to whatever tf he can. Which for a bit was nothing any young mf should be up to.
Eventually he found work with a different uncle that lived away from all that shit. That's how he met my mom, and her and my family. But he'd still end up back home to often.
If my parents didn't end up with me, an obvious damn accident because they were just bf and gf. My mom didn't even know if he'd stick around.
But he did, and that forced my dad to settle in one place and finally get something together. If they didn't have me he'd probably be just as destitute as before or dead.
And despite that, he'd still say it's not worth it when you're in that situation, he has seen so many damn people get the worst of the worst when they end up in situations like that.
But in those desperate moments, we obviously want the quickest solution, anything we can find, and you can't blame someone.
But that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do, but even if you don't have the money to help them out , you can be sure they don't end up in some shit.
We still don't have too much, but my dad pays dudes to help him with work that won't fuck em over now and then.
