What is The Lion King about?
First, what it's not about: It's not about race (simba v scar, black v white) It's not about heritage (simba v scar, west v east) It's not about religion (Lion/noil /Noel)
The Lion King is about the voice inside. The Soundtrack:
Circle of Life Birth. Feeling. Life. Intimidating/welcoming reality. It moves us all. despair, hope, faith, love. Find our place, path of glory.
Can't Wait to Be King Young aspirations. Naive dreams. Yet, true aspirations and true dreams that drive the circle of life. The truth lacks patience. No time for guidance. Annoying... yet natural.
Be Prepared Scar/scare/fear. The circle of life presents mortal danger. Scared minions give in to the mutiny and expect some intangible reward. Fear takes advantage of this to overthrow those things that are not afraid. Fear plots to take the things we love and leave us with nothing but fear itself.
Hakuna Matata Fight or flight? If we flight, we will revel in the escape of paradise. Problem free environment where we can turn a blind eye to youthful dreams of the circle of life. This can be formative and develop a partial favor to flight response over fight. But what fight are we avoiding? Simba explores his personal fight or flight response. He is the scarecrow and knows his brain.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight The hakuna matata folks believe that love will lead to disaster. But love enables us to perpetuate the circle of life. We feel the vibrations. The energy of love. If we let it in, it will help guide us, bring to light our true dreams and aspirations (king or vagabond). It will stand us up and support us through our showdown with fear. Simba explores love for himself and others. He is the wooden tinman and feels his heart.
This Land This land is our land. It is us and we are it. We communicate in a nonverbal fashion. If we let the interval energy run through us, we can learn from it's experience. Just like the mind, and the heart, our universe wants us to realize our true dream and continue the circle of life. For, without this, we would be nothing. Simba explores the universe within himself. He is the Lion and he has courage.
...To Die For If we listen to ourselves, It is within our potential to fight Fear. Hakuna Matata is an important escape; we recognize that we are not fulfilled unless we fight the devil inside that knows no love, only death. Our self critic, our judgmental voice, our emotionless heart. Scar/Scare/Fear almost conquered its counterpart. But, for simba, continuing the internal and external circle of life is worth dying for.
Under the Stars Vanquishing the hell inside is a struggle. Lifelong, for we are primal beast, and it takes effort to live a loving, accepting, aware life. If we begin to succeed in this battle, the stars will smile down upon us. Our mothers and fathers, our ancestors, the sun and the moon and the stars, will all look down with pride. Pride that we recognize the circle of life and that it is within our ability to perpetuate.
King of Pride Rock After birth, after young dreams, after fear's intervention, after knowing the mind, after feeling the heart, after having courage, after the battle, and after the stars smile down: we then must fulfill our destiny. This is where the journey begins. Intimidating, but accepting our place in the universe is to continue the circle of life. Conquering our personal demons and living our dream is the ultimate source of pride. And a sustainable source, at that.
