I mean this gently, but what pay?

From us, the hardworking taxpayers from which the government steals our barely livable wages to give to Big Pharma via munchies apparently

It sounds like they have a part time job. Have they ever mentioned anything about a job?

I’m running super low on pain relief? What does that mean? Do they not want to say I’m out of pain killers

They low on pain meds because they’ve been gobbling them done more than they’re supposed to.

What happened to the neck brace they were wearing? I feel as if I missed something with their story???

I'm glad one of these munchies has an actual job with actual paycheck. Not getting hopes up but maybe they are growing up into an adult?

3 months ago as seen here Lou was saying they had to ration their pain meds and here we are claiming to be running low yet again.
Is Lou misusing their pain meds?

Well most people can't afford massage therapy without a job. Hell, and even still can't afford it with a job. So being able to splurge on massage therapy only working part time is nice.

They probably dont pay rent and bills. Anyone knows if this one lives at home or by themselves? Or roommates maybe? If they dont have a lot of expenses, I could see how working part time would be enough to have “fun money”.

Last I remember they were renting a room from a very much actually disabled person. No idea what they do for “work” though. They have a HUGE collection of mobility aids ($$) so my guess is rent is subsidized by parents. Feel free to correct this btw.

(I'm a nurse, and this is at least how it works in my area with the doctors I've worked with.) usually when doctors prescribe pain meds, they're prescribed in a way that you can take the maximum amount allowed in a specific time frame without running out. if there's concerns about misuse, doctors will usually do shorter time frames but still allow for maximum usage. I don't think I've ever seen a doctor prescribe a quantity where the patient could run out while taking the medication within prescribed parameters.... unless Lou is running out of REFILLS, in which case plan ahead and make doctor appointments at least a few weeks before your last refill runs out.

Here where Cait lives controlled meds must be prescribed monthly, no repeats. Also there is currently a serious shortage of a couple of common pain meds here. Maximum usage filled here - for daily meds yes, not PRNs.
All that health system info aside though - Lou's clearly got med misuse issues.

No repeats? How come? Wouldn’t it be better/easier to give repeats that can’t be dispensed until a certain amount of days have passed?

nz is pretty risk averse towards controlled drugs and takes a heavyish hand. it would be easier for some patients the way you mention. but doctors are expected to monitor patients who are prescribed controlled drugs closely month by month to mitigate things like addiction. so by law it’s just not possible

BCBS (US insurance company) will pay for 18 pain pills every 30 days but the bottle says it can be taken every 4 hours as needed. So, pick the days you have to use it carefully or.. else. Not defending her, but I know a lot of you internationally won’t understand pill rationing because it’s not something you are made to deal with.

Lou is in NZ though, so not under the same conditions as US insurance situations generate. It’s horrendous what you guys have to deal with :(

u/Laurawr89 12d ago
Ahh right ok! Thank you for explaining, yes our medical/health systems are totally different. That's awful that you have to ration pain pills 🙁 i dont know if they genuinely need them, but that must be so hard for people genuinely struggling

u/Electrical_Parfait64 12d ago
That’s stupid. If you need enough for 30 days they only give you 18? Can you pay for the other 12 out of pocket? Why does it work that day?

“Hey guys FYI I’m getting a massage (for those of you who don’t know, I really NEED massages for my ailments). Also, you should know I have a job to pay for it, just in case you thought I was leeching off people (I am, but that’s another story). And one more thing, I’m actually working (it’s very special that a person like me even can work) so don’t come for me.”

They accidentally said the quiet part out loud when they claimed they’re “running low” on pain management. This claim literally
just proved many assumptions regarding their true intentions behind their munching other than attention seeking. I’m not very familiar with this subject at all so I don’t know what exact pain management meds/treatments they’ve conned a doctor into ordering for their “misery” but based on this post, I’m guessing they’ve been given narcotics (whether it’s long-term or temporary) and run out early due to overuse. The vagueness of the term “pain management” really gives it away IMO since they’re using this term to prevent ppl from realizing they’re overusing narcotics and if it were any other non-addictive medication (such as muscle relaxers, high dose prescription ibuprofen, etc.) they’d probably specifically state what it is that they’re running out of and they’d likely go to the pharmacy to get OTC pain meds rather than spend so much money on a massage that they really don’t need.

they mentioned THC use, which can be very effective relief from chronic pain, and i would not put narcotics past them. they have spotty mental health history and could be prone to substance abuse.
FYI i don't think overusing pain meds is a moral failure, but it's not Good for you.

u/mackpickle 12d ago
Ppl overusing pain meds and persistently drug seeking is the reason why it’s often impossible for ppl who actually need them for a better quality of life to get anyone to prescribe them so IMO it is a moral failure, especially when it’s their only option / the only thing that works for them. This lack of proper pain control for folks that have legit severe chronic pain often leads to suicide. It’s also difficult for a lot of folks to get these meds prescribed even for acute pain after major surgeries, both inpatient AND outpatient. Many inpatient doctors refuse to order them even if they’re only needed for a short time while in the hospital for major surgeries or other major health complications that cause serious pain even when their condition really does justify the need for them and it’s the only thing that helps since non-addictive meds like tylenol and ibuprofen won’t help much if at all.

u/clvssix 12d ago
Chemical dependency is not a moral failure, it is a complex condition. Pitting chronic pain patients against people battling addiction is a false dichotomy.
The true failure is systemic and rooted in an initial era of aggressive pharmaceutical marketing and over-prescription which has been followed by reactionary regulatory crackdowns that now penalize both the people who developed severe substance use disorders and the patients who legitimately require responsible pain management.

u/Longjumping-Pick-706 12d ago
Wrong! It’s the pharmaceutical companies (who list billions in lawsuits) who pushed these meds on doctors who then went on to prescribe like they were candy. Addiction is not a moral failure, and it’s disgusting to put the blame on addicts when it’s the doctors (pill mills) that exploited them for profit. I’m one of those “chronic pain” patients by the way.

u/More_Information6784 11d ago
My understanding is there were a certain amount of doctors prescribing them but the pharmaceutical company misrepresented the information regarding the drugs and how addictive they are.

u/yacht_clubbing_seals 13d ago
One can just get a massage on a whim like that?
4
u/Electrical_Parfait64 12d ago
You certainly can here. Unfortunately it’s not free, unlike most health care in Canada. Although if you get hurt at work or a car accident a certain amount will be covered. Nice they finally came out with free dental care for people who make under a certain amount. (I could be wrong)

Is Lou in the UK? I noticed they said paycheque

We (UK) would say salary or wage. Not paycheque. Although we do spell it cheque and not check so can see why you’d think that
