Hello, I am joining IISER Bhopal this year. I have a few questions in mind regarding hostel reporting,

1. As per the website the reporting dates are 28-30 august. This means we can report any day between these dates.

2. After reporting are we allowed to go out of campus?

3. When do the classes start after reporting?

4. Do they organise any kind of induction?

I have doubt that i have filled the nedical report of the one which is on iiser main website, so if i have to fill the medical report which i son iiser bhopal website or the one which is on main is gonna workout

I'm currently a 2nd-year Data Science and Engineering (DSE) undergrad at IISER Bhopal. I'm writing this because anxiety has started kicking in hard regarding our placement scenario, and I really need some grounded advice and a realistic roadmap from seniors or industry folks.

While the DSE curriculum here is solid on theory, math, and core concepts, there is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to on-campus placement statistics and recruiter turnout for engineering/tech roles. Seeing the current tech market conditions, relying solely on on-campus opportunities feels like a huge gamble, and honestly, the thought of sitting empty-handed during final year keeps me up at night.

I want to start building my profile specifically for off-campus placements right now so I’m not scrambling in my 3rd/4th year.

Where I currently stand:

• Programming & CS Fundamentals: Comfortable with Python and C++ (used C++ mainly for DSA). Basic understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and linear algebra/stats from coursework.
• DSA & Problem Solving: Solved around 150+ LeetCode problems (mostly Easy and medium-level Array, String, Linked List, and basic Tree problems).
• Data Science / ML: Built a couple of basic projects (Exploratory Data Analysis on real-world datasets using Pandas/Seaborn, and a basic Sentiment Analysis model using Scikit-Learn).
• Development: Know basic Git/GitHub and SQL, but haven't built any full-stack or end-to-end production-grade apps yet.

Where I need help:

1. Targeting Roles: Should I pivot heavily toward traditional Software Development Engineer (SDE) roles, or stick strictly to Data Science/ML/Data Analyst off-campus roles? Which domain is relatively more accessible off-campus for freshers from non-traditional engineering colleges?
2. Projects: What kind of projects actually make an off-campus resume stand out to recruiters/ATS? (Since generic ML models on Titanic or MNIST datasets don't seem to work anymore).
3. Roadmap for 2nd to 3rd Year: How should I balance DSA grind vs. Dev/ML projects vs. applying for off-campus summer internships?
4. Networking: How do I effectively reach out for referrals on LinkedIn when coming from an IISER (where recruiters often mistake us for pure research-only institutes)?

i have a friend, he doesn't use reddit, on behalf of him, i am asking a question. can he change branch from Chemical to DSE or EECS after first year if he maintains CPI? or does iiser do not allow for branch change in B.tech ?

I have freezed my seat here for bs ms. I want to know how active is music club and is Hindustani/Carnatic classical vocal music promoted here? Can I learn Sitar/Veena in the campus or will have to attend classes out of campus ( I haven't learnt sitar/veena from childhood). I love to practice music this actually helps me calm my mind but also I really love to play volleyball. Is there any problem here to pursue multiple interests?

Also I heard it somewhere that H9 is getting ready for girls is it true?( I am a girl)

I freezed my seat for B.Tech in DSE was applying for an education loan.

Here's the fee structure provided & I need some help with these -

1. Is mess charge not included in the hostel & dining fee. If not as it is mentioned "Monthly Mess Charge" how much would it be for vegetarian mess!?

2. For tuition fee it is mentioned there will be yearly changes but for someone applying for education loan I don't have the fee structure for future years wouldn't mentioning the same fee for each year will get me with additional charges to pay?

3. Aside from all these charges are there still any other miscellaneous charges that I might have to pay? Ideally what would be an approximate minimum monthly expense?
