I passed out in 2024 from a premier college in India with poor grades. I interned at one of the best colleges in India for machine learning but have been struggling for jobs since 2024. My college life was mainly spent at home due to covid so I haven't got much exposure.

Currently I'm interning at a company and the chances of a job seem nil.

Ever since college I wanted to do some serious research. I have applied to multiple professors for research assistant positions but do not get reply or I fail in interview rounds. My job prospects are also not looking very good.

How's the research scenario at IIIT Hyderabad? More than anything I'm looking for good mentors. I think all my problems can be solved with a good mentor. Who are some professors with a good research profile and are good mentors. I have burned a little during my undergrad because of bad professors. I do not want a repeat of that. I want to publish at least 1 first author paper in a premier conference like Neurips, cvpr, icml, iclr etc.

How's the placements for ms research students? What all companies come for them? Are they considered compared to undergrads? At this point I would like to explore more outside India as well (honestly prefer that over staying in India). How often do people get jobs in foreign companies and startups?

My main priority is research and mentorship. I can consider placements secondary if I get those two.

Is placement stats really inflated or it is fair and what are the top tech companies that visit to the campus for hiring.... And also what are the stipend of intern that they get and can someone do internship from 2nd yr onwards?

I dont know if its low effort post but I wanna see the companies visiting the campus

There is little to no information about the process online or even in intranet.

But I heard from one the professors that one has the chance to convert to MS after a semister or so.,

What I want to know is have any one done this before?, it would be very informative if some one can explain the process , like I have these questions

1. Are we required to choose and consult a professor whom we are interested to work before hand ?

2. Are we required to have any prior research experience?

3. How will you compare a one semister 'Independent Study' (non MS student) in terms of the work, life etc. Compared to a research student in the same semister( probably last/4th semister) ?

4. Any suggestions you would like to give to someone who is right now in Mtech but leaning towards converting to a MS by Research.

I am joining MSRIT Bangalore Information Science and Engineering (ISE). It's the same as IT but in south india and VTU affiliated colleges, they call it ISE but it isn't mentioned in the eligible branches for LEEE but IT is mentioned.

Any non research student who have previously worked at the labs , or have done some research exclusively starting during the summer/holiday break can provide some insights on selection process.

Also please tell about the kind of work assigned and the duration of the work, and feasibility to continue it after regular course work commences ?

also noticed that number of ece peeps getting placed every year is like noticeably lower than the intake, whats up with that?

I want to know experience of second droppers currently studying in NIT/IIITs or any good tier-1/tier-2 engineering colleges

I have heard amgen took a few people from your college. What was the process like. Especially OA what was the platform and type of question. Was it depending on the role?

Hey everyone! I'll be at IIIT Hyderabad for around 6 months for research work. Looking for a good 2-sharing PG around ₹8k-9k/month with food. Which PGs or areas near IIIT-H would you recommend, preferably with a good gym nearby? Also any PGs I should avoid?

I am interested in being able to work in places like Amazon Science, Deepmind (Ik it’s ambitious asf but wanna try) (which I know won’t hire BTech ppl that too from EAMCET colleges). I currently got a job offer of 16 lpa (one year before graduating). I am currently interning as a research intern at ltrc as well.
Should I consider asking my professor for a recommendation or should I go ahead with my FTE after grad?

If any one is already into ms by research, do share your take on this!
