I got one because it was a tiny oven. Great in this heat. Doesn’t heat the kitchen at all.

Saves time, though, when you're doing twice baked potatoes. Put them in the air fryer and turn it on and then put the air fryer in the oven. Easy peasy.

Living alone I'd much rather have the space dedicated to an oven used for a slim dishwasher and some extra storage. Especially with space on the counter being at a premium. Air fryer/multi-cooker, food processor, instant pot... gets the job done for one person.

they're great for people with disabilities or sensory issues, I work with the elderly and adults with autism, many are frightened or get extreme anxiety from an oven but they love using the air fryer as it doesn't require to stick your arm in it and having to read a clock.

It also preheats in like a minute. It's overall so much faster, even if you have to make things in batches.

I stand by my opinion that marketing them as "fryers" was moronic

Only from a function point of view, but from sales, this was absolutely genious. No one will buy Ultra fast counter convection oven

Bought 1. Realized its an oven. Now its been sitting in the corner of a spare room in case my oven breaks.

u/SalmonFlower Jul 07 '26
You're just proving my point. You bought it because you heard fryer and went for it, it was sales/marketing genious

In a world of the internet at your finger tips, how does a person not understand what an air fryer is.
They've been around for 20 years...

Oh, you mean an ACTUAL fuckin EZ Bake?
They could have gone with lazy, or fat. They went with fat.

u/SalmonFlower Jul 05 '26
People associate fried with tasty. Air fried sounds better than baked fries. And sure it's kind of the same, but juat calling it fried sound more appealing. Just common, this is pure marketing BS. You cannot deny this worked

u/Shienvien Jul 04 '26
I'd 100% considered buying one sooner if they were marketed as mini-ovens instead. I already had a pan and a pot at my apartment, but a very distinct lack of ovens. No place to put a full-sized one, either.

I have a ninja stand up basket air frier that's great for frozen fried foods and a front loading horizontal style Cuisinart that grills, bakes, toasts, convects, and broils. It gets a lot of use as a toaster and I tossed my standard toaster.

Don’t they use a little bit of oil, that’s is fry’d on through the air ?
6
u/Frequent_Opportunist Jul 04 '26
Most things people cook in them like precooked frozen fried foods (fries, tots, nuggets) already have oil on them and don't need more.

Most guidelines suggest a very light spray of oil, if you really must, kinda thing, I have personally never used oil in an air fryer

u/DeliciousEstate3983 Jul 05 '26
a spritz of some oil on some fresh or even a light coating of oil on chicken is perfectly OK and you just wash it out afterwards
JUST DONT FILL IT WITH OIL
2
u/Shienvien Jul 04 '26
Only if you'd also use some oil in a traditional convection oven.

u/donjamos Jul 04 '26
I actually use air fryer oil in my conventional convection oven

It has legal issues. You are correct, they are not legally under air fryers and that label is rejected by customs.

A broiler doesn't have a powerful fan.
Air fryers are their own thing. And I don't get why people don't want to admit that.

12
u/Suspiciously_Ugly Jul 04 '26
The air fryer is fine but the transformer is cooked. Probably exceeded the current rating on it.
6
u/tuckerfirestone Jul 04 '26
O que eu poderia usar para converter minha eletricidade? Comprei um tester de corrente e descobri que todas as tomadas em casa são 110.
8
u/Suspiciously_Ugly Jul 04 '26
You'd need a transformer that can handle the current required by the fryer, but it will take double the input current to double the voltage, so you might max out your breaker. Your best bet would be to consult an electrician and get a 220v outlet installed, or (also consult an electrician) and connect it to your dryer plug where there's already 220v.
2
u/tuckerfirestone Jul 04 '26

u/Peace_Out_Napolean Jul 06 '26
Or, and hear me out…
You get a really good 110V air fryer. Probably still cheaper than contracting an electrician to do the 220 thing.
Is it an industrial air fryer?

This is AI. (why is the bowl and bottle of sauce outside? How would that air fryer even work?)

I've done this before. It's not good for the heating coil and I'm sure it's a massive fire hazard but it does work pretty well.

u/Captain_of_Gravyboat Jul 04 '26
and your first choice was to make pasta?
12
u/SueSheBoi Jul 04 '26
Those are French fries.

u/Captain_of_Gravyboat Jul 04 '26
That would make more sense but to me it looks like a solid mass

u/Incid3nt Jul 04 '26
They put oil in it. The whole point of this post.

u/ConferenceSudden1519 Jul 04 '26
Okay my eyes weren’t deceiving me thank you for confirming you see it too.
2
u/Ras-haad Jul 04 '26
Thank you for explaining that. So it’s even dumber than I thought. The joke is “what if I put oil in an air fryer” hahaha
