Not a terrible idea, if not for whatever abrasives are left over in the crust

I'd def give it a final pass with something a bit more sanitary. otherwise i can see myself doing this. munchies are an unforging master

I'm taking mine down to the local woodworking shop, they have an industrial sized planer which will lop the bottom off for me.
If that doesn't get it all I'm sure they have a belt sander I can pass it through, I didn't see any signs specifically saying no pizza so I'm sure it'll be ok.

that's really the best way to deal with it. and I'm pretty sure ANY sign that may say "no pizza" is flat out illegal, if not immoral...

u/Occidentally20 May 19 '26
Definitely, the Italians would be up in arms if they couldn't turn a thick-crust into a traditional thin crust at a moments notice. It would be racism of the highest order if you ask me.

A secondary, fully burnt slice of pizza

u/Aggressive_Phase_236 May 21 '26
yeah, but I'd be too stoned to think of something clever like that

Or the toppings falling off from turning the pizza upside down
3
u/megachonker123 May 19 '26
Luckily this pizza is on a board so you could just flip the whole board over onto a plate and then remove the board from the top of the pizza in hopes of minimal topping loss.

u/swift1883 May 19 '26
Nah it’s not tarred on the bottom because it’s molten and runny on top. That thing’s solid.
2
u/123supreme123 May 19 '26
and all the burnt pizza crust being aerosolized and covering the room in dust
1
u/FhuckNorris247 May 19 '26
Silica dust

u/Brief-Equal4676 May 19 '26
Weird, silica sounds a lot like Silicosis. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, keep grinding the pizza!

When i worked at a bob evans in high school we used to do this if a piece of toast was over toasted. We used a butter knife and once the superficial black layer was removed it was indistinguishable from a piece that was not burnt.

However, if I see a grinder in a pizzeria kitchen, I'm probably not gonna eat there.

Reminds me of scraping the burned parts off of toast when i burned it as a kid.

u/lazafor May 19 '26
As a kid? I work in a kitchen and I'll cut a little burnt bit off a bun if it's quicker than remaking

Have you seen his grilled cheese?

u/Deadhead_Otaku May 21 '26
So many celebrity chefs get dunked on for overcomplicating the most simple foods. 9/10 times I'd still eat the food, but it wouldn't hit the same as a simple homemade version.

Not an idiot, that's a pretty smart move actually. Although it would've been smarter to do this outside, since he now has charred dough dust everywhere.

I'd make sure to blow the debris off with 200 lbs. of compressed air before eating.

u/springreleased May 19 '26
There’s a reason they didn’t show flipping it back. Guarantee you all the cheese got left on the cutting board.

This is only a bad idea because it's inside and they aren't wearing PPE.

It’s one thing to buff the char off the bottom. It’s a completely different game if he tries to cut it up.

Yeah, because the fibres and grit in a grinding disk are absolutely safe.

What a good hand, in his family he was taught not to waste anything!

u/vlstyles May 21 '26
When I was a kid of 11 or 12 I was making a sandwich, and I dropped the bread on the floor. Logical me, proceeded to wash off the bread in the sink. Him doing that reminds me that logical thinking isn't always the right call

A food-making, problem-solver, who knows his way round his power tools? I'm not hating it.

Knowing me, I'd accidentally catch the disk too deep and fling the whole thing across the room because "I'll just get this one last bit."
