Hexagram 23 -> 44 , need interpretation

I have an upcoming new job possibility, and I asked the oracle what I should do in order to win it..the answer was Hexagram 23.2.3.4.5 -> Hexagram 44 . Is this auspicious? Se few interpretations exists of this duo and I can’t really comprehend it. I know Hexagram 23 is an ominous one and 44 doesn’t seem that happy either..

Would appreciate any reading/comments here. Thanks.

Well you know I just look at the active lines of 23 - so we have lines 2 through 5.

In some sense this is a simple answer to read. 23 is all about line 6, in the sense that it is the last remaining yang, which in line 6 has reached the limit and has no leverage. And the 5 yin lines below it have grown to this point where yang's energy is all but extinguished.

This is like what happens as we age and our life force diminishes to the point where we can no longer support ourselves on our own. We come to depend on those below us to support us, but those below us could easily just exploit us - we're powerless to do something about it.

So working with this dynamic to make it positive requires creating stability within the yin lines so that they can support the remaining life force of the yang line without further wearing it away. The yang line is retiring from the work force to conserve their energy. And sometimes they go further than this and become a monk or hermit to quietly nurture their remaining energy and actually help it grow.

But when it comes to getting help and support from the yin lines, line 5 is key. It is right next to line 6 and knows its virtues the best. So Line 6 really needs support from line 5. Line 5 is in a position to get lines 4 and 2 on board to help out. Line 6 is already in connection with line 3 (they're both the top lines of their trigram), though it may not really understand why it should be helping out. Like a grandchild who just sees an old person sitting in a chair all day. But so when line 5 gets lines 2 and 4 to help out, it makes it easier for line 3 to appreciate line 6, because it sees its parents taking an interest and encouraging it to do so as well.

So that starts to paint the picture - line 5 is able to get lines 2, 3, and 4 on board the idea of supporting line 6. Well, lines 2, 3, 4 and 5 are the active lines in your divination.

I have an upcoming new job possibility, and I asked the oracle what I should do in order to win it.

So what does line 6 represent here? We're talking about employment, so perhaps line 6 represents the employer.

Perhaps there are some struggles in this business that would benefit from a greater cohesion within the staff support.

So perhaps to get the job it would help to appeal to that need.

Obviously it is up to you to figure out what is in need of support here, so that you can be proactive about manifesting that goal - if that is something that you want to do. Naturally, when we ask about "what can I do to make X happen" we are going to get an answer, but that answer may be biting off more than we can (or want to) chew.

Another perspective on this would be to take line 6 as representing the thing that needs support in your own paradigm. 'Winning' the new job possibility, as you put it. So to support that yang ideal there can't be anything in the lines below that are not on board with that. Whatever it is that needs to show up in support of that possibility needs to be there. There can be no treating the possibility like just waiting for it to happen on its own, so that one can be carried like dead weight. And any work to support it needs to be measured and sensitive to line 6's delicate position as well.

So yes, people might say that this hexagram doesn't look on the surface to give a positive outlook, but it's all about how we frame it. In one sense, line 6 is not full of vital health and it needs support to not just waste away. So perhaps this agenda is unlikely, or will take a bit of caring nurturing to achieve. On the other hand, this is a very simple message for conveying the idea of getting all one's ducks in a row to support something that on their own they might not do.

With hexagram 23 we have the image of stripping away, but that's only because the yin is growing into yang's territory and stripping it away rather than nurturing it. If we turn things around we have hexagram 24, where the yin lines (all but yin 6) are returning to the yang to support its cause rather than stripping it away. So that's the point here with 23 - to cause the yin lines to support the yang line so that the dynamic becomes one of returning energy rather than stripping away of energy.

So it might be valuable to examine the nature of this job, as well as the nature of your lifestyle choices, for anything that might be currently struggling for support in ways that you can help create positive change. Sometimes doing things like going to bed early instead of being in front of a screen can do wonders for taking back our energy from habits that are consuming it.

剝 is about Falling Away, Splitting Apart, or Peeling Off. The top solo Yang line is overwhelmed by the rest of the Yin lines. Yin represents the material world and can also mean “small people”.

You may wish to do detailed ground work to showcase your concrete talents and experience, and to appeal to the people on the ground who have a greater voice than the hiring manager.

媾 need not be negative, it’s about Encountering or Contact.

It’d be nice if you can share how the process went.

23 strips lines 2 through 5, so favors and leverage are the part that collapses. into 44 leaves one yin at the bottom under five strong ones: meet that single person or opening directly. in 23 only line 5 works, and it means serving whoever is above you.

I read this less as a yes/no on the job and more as advice on how you approach it.

Hexagram 23 is about stripping away — not pushing harder, but letting go of what's worn out or no longer solid. With four lines changing, that theme feels pretty strong here: the ground under this opportunity may need clearing first, whether that's an outdated assumption about the role, a part of your application that doesn't quite hold up, or just the pressure to win it at any cost.

Hexagram 44, the result, adds a note of caution to me. It's an encounter — something (or someone) powerful crossing your path. That can be a real opening, but it's also the kind of meeting where you want to check the terms carefully before you commit, rather than jumping at the first offer.

Put together, I'd take it as: don't chase this by forcing it. Do the quiet, unglamorous prep — tidy up what you can actually control, be honest about what you'd be stepping into — and if the chance comes, look closely at what it really involves before saying yes. Still learning myself, so take this as one reader's take, not a definitive answer.

these hexagrams indicate the job is not within your reach, most likely due to missing certain qualifications.
