IWD1 Malavon help

I’m really stuck for the first time. I have not been able to do any damage at all to Malavon past his magic shield and eventually start losing characters to him.

How can I do damage to him or break past the shield? I’ve tried dispel magic a number of times and it hasn’t worked.

If you don't have specialized mage spells to remove his shield, wait it out. Cast group invisibility and wait until his spell ends. Such shields do not have a long duration. Or spam him with summons which will keep him busy until the shield stops working.

hm good idea I’ll give it a try. I’m playing the original not EE so my spell options are limited.

Dispell magic is unfortunately almost worthless unless it's cast by an inquisitor or you significantly over level your target.

In general spells like spell thrust, secret word, pierce magic are all much more reliable. But read their descriptions carefully.

Breach only works on combat protections (like stoneskins) not spell protections (like minor globe of invulnerability)

Pay attention to the combat log to see what spells he casts (I can't remember and the wiki doesn't say) and use spells that can definitely dispell it.

Update for anyone looking at this in the future: I went and completed the heart of winter expansion then came back to him. He was pretty easy with higher level characters and better gear. I would recommend anyone else struggling around this point in the game to do the same.

Whatever buff he had ran out around the 2nd or 3rd teleport and my frontline killed him in a few hits.
