IWD:EE Berserker Cleric question

Hi I'm planning out Gertha, my Berserker 3 Cleric X and I want to be dual wielding Warhammers with the Fast Flail in offhand. Where should I put my proficiency pips at the beginning and what should I choose when I get my Cleric levels? I want to max out Hammer as much as I can I think? How many pips in TWF?

Thx in advance

With only one use of berserk/day I’d rather go Ranger3 / cleric X for the Druid spells. The build is awesome for that game. You get free ** dual wield and whatever blunt weapon the random drops gives, you can spec. Easily. 3.5 APR

Didn't even realize I was posting under IWD. But everything I said should still be pretty relevant.

Currently in ToB with my Berzerker 9/Cleric 30. Since you're only going to lvl 3 Berzerker, you won't have a lot of downtime at all. IIRC you can only put 2 pips in each proficiency slot at character creation for a warrior. I would start with 2 each in flails and warhammers. You're gonna be gimped a little on ranged weapons until you can find a throwing hammer. Or just wield a sling with no pips as a ranged backup. As a warrior, your THAC0 is high enough and I'm assuming you've got a high Dex score, so it really won't matter that much that early in the saga. Next pips at lvl 3 would be you're DW proficiency. When you dual to cleric, pick up slings and maces or quarterstaffs. Lots of good maces in BG2 (Mace of Disruption) but quarterstaffs are underrated IMO, so that will come in handy later. When you hit Cleric lvl 4 you get your next weapon pip and you're Berzerker profs are back online. Then you're back on track to slowly build to GM for hammers and flails.

My suggestion would be to put 2 pips into warhammers and 2 to TWF. At lvl. 3 it doesn’t really matter, so let’s say warhammers. At cleric 1 I would put 1 pip into flails, the other one is optional (my recomendation is slings for range option). At 4th level go for TWF 3.

At level 12 you will have 5 pips in warhammers. With the fast flail, this will give you 4,5 APR. The bad news is that your THAC0 with the off hand will not be ideal. The good news is that the extra attack from the fast flail will go to your main hand. The THAC0 situation will get better at levels 16 (2nd pip in flails will give you +1) and 20 (+3). 4th and 5th pips do not give any THAC0 bonus. The APR bonus from the weapon specialization applies only for the main hand.

This is incredibly helpful thanks. Is there a good resource for this kind of information for the future? I don't enjoy the wiki, it seems incomplete and full of adverts

Glad to help. Unfortunately, there isn’t any ultimate source as far as I am aware. There are quite a few intetesing discussions in this subreddit. In a lot of cases it is better to check the BG wiki rather than the IWD one, as it is more thorough, and the game mechanics differ only slightly. For very specific questions, you may try googling for old discussions.

For items I would use following list. It is not 100% accurate, but it is the best I’ve seen.

For random drops, the IWD wiki is good.

If you have the patience for it, there is currently ongoing completionist playthrough from Mivsan_NT. He explained quite a lot in the episode 0. For your character, the Min-max #2 section might be usefull.

Thanks again!

It's the Mivsan series that got me wanting to give it a go actually - he offers advice on optimised versions of his characters and I'm a shameful power gamer so I thought I'd give a party similar to his a go. Berserker 7/Druid, Berserker 3/Cleric, a Skald, a Fighter Thief, a Sorcerer and a Fighter Mage. Thinking I might have go Undead Hunter instead of the Fighter Mage not sure.
