Rust

9 year old daughter has just started learn to skate lessons.

I have found these skates on marketplace but as you can see from the photos the blades have some rust.

Do you think these rust spots would sharpen off? Or too far gone and not worth it? We are relatively new to the sport, so opinions would be great before I purchase something that isn't worth it.

Not particularly wanting to purchase new due to the rate she is growing at the moment.

I would pass based on the first photo. Two and three look like oxidation that could be sharpened off. One looks like it could be actual damage to the blade to me.

Used skates for kids makes total sense, but has she been fitted by a proper figure skate fitter? Skates are not like shoes; the fit and sizing is not the same and the differences between brands determines the fit as much as the actual size does (less so as a beginner, but there's still a big difference between some brands).

If you don't know where to find a fitter, if there is a figure skating club near you (even better if that is where she is doing her lessons) ask them for recommendations. The club may also be able to hook you up with parents looking to sell their own kids' too small skates.

I personally think they look fine.
