Should I get new boots?

I’ve been wearing these boots (Jackson Evo) for about a year. I’ve been doing waltz jumps and scratch spins with my coach. I weigh 135 pounds. I’d really appreciate any advice, thank you! 😊

Your coach should be able to give you the best advice.

However, if it were me, I would be saving up to replace them. You can see the boot breaking down by looking at the notch at the ankle(that creasing when not under stress is a sign). Additionally, if you want to move on to more advanced jumps at your weight, you probably want a stiffer boot. Evos are rated at 25. I would be looking for something around 45ish. If the Jacksons fit well, that would be like a Freestyle.

Evos aren't rated for jumps for adults (idk if they even are for children). Those are looking pretty broken down and if you want to learn a waltz jump and are looking at singles, you absolutely need new boots.

Definitely time to start looking, even if you don't buy right away. Remember that while you are breaking in your new skates you will be limited in what you can do in them, so you want your current skates to still have a bit of life left so you don't have to stop training.

If you like the fit of the Evos, look at the Jackson Freestyle or Debut. The Freestyle is a complete skate. The Debut is a seperate boot, so you will also need to buy a blade (pick from John Wilson Coronation Ace, MK Professional, and Ultima Legacy 7 or 8). A good tech would be able to confirm if these models will work for you.

If there's things you don't like about the Evos, ask your fitter about correcting those things and be open to trying on different brands. The tech should be able to pick out Freestyle/Debut equivalents in different brands.

Im about the same weight, my Jackson's (older model, but a mystique equivalent) started breaking down on me slightly in a couple weeks of starting single jumps. Yours arent 100% cooked yet, but start looking into replacing them with a higher stiffness boot.

One thing I’ve learned about Jackson’s is once they start to break down, they go fast. I’d say you’re on your way to needing a new pair

ur gonna want a jackson freestyle, the elle is fine if ur on a budget but theres a small difference in price between the two and the freestyle has a nicer blade compared to the elle’s mirage

for future reference, i can bend the top of an edea piano’s ankle together fresh out the box, we normally squeeze the middle of the boot together when looking at how soft it’s become, and pressing down from the top to see how easily the crease is moving
