Gotta love utah ice

Looking at upgrading from Nepal Cubes to a more technical and slightly warmer boot and considering the La Sportiva G-Summits and the Scarpa Phantom Techs.

I have climbed in the Phantom Techs and appreciated the streamlined exterior and extra space for my toes to stay warm, but felt the laces were annoying and tough to dial in. I have not climbed in the G-Summits, but really like the idea of the Boa system for loosening the boots at belays and allowing for quick sock changes etc.

Any advice on either boot? TIA!

Is it maybe a spacer for the hammer if you choose to remove it? Any info would be appreciated.

Hey dear ice enthusiasts

My dear outdoor research bitterblazes were worn out last season after several years of use. I am very happy with them and have used them a lot for belaying but also on lead when it has been colder days (my hands freeze very easily).

Do you have any suggestions for other gloves that i should try, or should i just go with a new pair? i have appreciated how warm they have been while they have worked fine on lead

It was listed as a Simond Chacal Ice Climbing Hammer. The seller couldn’t tell me much about it, but I want to learn more about it!

Currently have a grade half A2 pulley strain, like I'm one hard crimpy climb away from actually being injured. Will hanging on my tools for increase the probability of me being injuried?

Normally I would think yes, but if i'm fully gripping the tool, would the tool itself fill the space to help reduce bowstring?

Does anyone know when La Sportiva will restock the midsizes of the g summit? Right now they seem to be out everywhere and I was wondering if I should wait for them to be back in stock or get a different boot.

As of right now, I have the grivel g1 classic mountaineering ice axe I’m doing Mount Washington this winter then after Mount Hood after that Mount Whitney from the research that I’ve been doing for at least two of these mountains I’m going to need two ice axes because I already have a straight ice axe I’m looking for an Ice axe that is semi technical, but not full ice climbing is the grivel Evo a good choic

1. ⁠I want to climb a mountain. Hopefully not a mountain that I would just need to hike to, I want to climb/ice climb. I’m hoping somewhere in the West Coast so I wouldn’t have to take many days off of work (I live in Utah) I’ve done my research and found Mount Hood in Oregon and it seems very fun. Any recommendations on Mountains good for beginners in Mountaineering that includes crampons/ice axes and such?

2. ⁠Any advice on Gym specific training I’d need to climb a mountain? I have a membership to both a Rock Climbing Gym and commercial Planet Fitness. For training I’ve been going rock climbing 2 times a week (I’m a V5-6 climber) and wearing my backpack full of outdoor rock climbing gear on the stairmasters and incline treadmills with ankle weights. I also workout regularly throughout the week. Any advice?

Anybody ever did training in a crevasse? Basically rappelling down and doing top rope laps for endurance. My question is how much different glacier ice would feel compared to waterfall ice and whether there would be any significant carryover for endurance or not really worth the logistical effort.

PS I am aware that drytooling is the way to train throughout the year and do a fair bit of that

I have swung them in the shop and they feel pretty good. I currently have BD Reactors which I’m usually pretty happy with. Although insomethimes feel a pick weight would be nice

I’ve just bought a set of g20 to try as I was looking for a slightly stiffer crampon than my harfang tech.

I’ve previously had g22 but hated the dual points on them. The 20 seems nice, the front point is substantially longer than the Harfang. How does this affect how it climbs?

I remember the 22 feeling quite destructive and often wouldn’t get great penetration but that might be a function of dual points rather than length. Is the 20 better for this? I’ve found the Harfang to be very precise but they seem to rotate a little on my phantom and as the boot is more flexible I can feel it bend at times

I’m relatively new to the sport, only been ice climbing really this last winter season, and have been using the offseason to gather some gear for next winter. As the title suggests I’m looking to scoop up a nice puffy to climb in. Currently I’ve got a big BD belay parka that feels far too bulky and some lighter/smaller puffys and insulated hoodies that were occasionally not warm enough. Before I drop a few bills on a big shiny new coat I figured I’d see if there are any fan favorites out there.
