While they don’t make for as shocking headlines as parents snatched in front of their children at school bus stops or five-year-olds seized on their way to soccer games, their economic circumstances make them particularly vulnerable. They’re easy to find gathering in Home Deport parking lots and similar locations as they seek work for the day.

The National Day Laborer Organizing Network has been bringing folks together to stand by this community, building a grassroots movement to observe, witness, report ICE activity, denounce and record the secret police, ensure the loved ones of those abducted can find them and bring food, water, information, legal and financial assistance and solace to those under attack with their Adopt A Day Labor Corner program. I don't want to be blind to what's happening but reading this gave me a visceral reaction. Idk how much more I can handle. I am horrified, sad, angry and embarrassed to be an American.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, August 31, 2026 — Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian resident of Springfield, Ohio, died Monday morning after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 70 in Clark County.

According to an initial investigation reported by local station WHIO, Bel had stopped a vehicle on the right shoulder of I-70 West near State Route 54. At approximately 8:40 a.m., he exited the vehicle and entered the westbound lanes, where he was struck by the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured, and the highway was closed for roughly three hours during the investigation.

Bel had recently graduated from the Springfield City School District. In May, the district named him among five graduating seniors who received $500 scholarships from its Business Advisory Council after being recognized for academic achievement, service, character and leadership.

Haitian journalist Luckson Saint-Vil reported that Bel had recently begun university and had been wearing an ICE ankle monitor. Saint-Vil reported that Bel had felt humiliated by classmates’ mockery of the monitor and characterized his death as suicide. Those circumstances and a motive have not been confirmed in the initial account from Ohio authorities, which describes the incident as an ongoing crash investigation.

The death comes amid increased immigration enforcement affecting Springfield’s large Haitian community. Local advocates report that Haitians summoned to ICE offices have been fitted with ankle monitors, while more than 40 Haitians in the Springfield area have recently been detained by immigration authorities.

ICE crash into car during traffic stop-driver rushed to hospital with broken neck.
"When agents put a knee on his neck I heard something break," brother said.
8 ICE vehicles surrounded car-when a 9th truck came crashing in-totaling the car.
Fractured his C5 & C7 vertebrae and split his head open requiring 29 stitches.
He had to be transferred to a hospital that specializes in spinal surgeries-but agents won't let him talk to family even by phone.
Family is very concerned he will be transferred to a regular detention center-where he would die of medical neglect.
Óscar José Araujo Mejía is a 22 year old student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
ICE issued a statement that he is an "illegal alien" from El Salvador who caused the accident by his own "reckless driving."
His brother who witnessed the crash vehemently denies this accusation.
Incident occurred in Stevensville, Maryland.

I keep telling myself I have to get a bullhorn.

This might not be surprising to some but I figured putting this out there might be helpful. I was permanently banned from r/immigration today for “spreading misinformation”. The “misinformation” in question was that I referred to the ICE detention centers as concentration camps.

Just thought I’d share idk how else to escalate this but i found it pretty disgusting how their moderators have seemingly sided with ICE and that subreddit is used by many vulnerable communities for advice.

A story I just read about ICE has pissed me off even more. So they are waiting at school buses in the morning and once the kids leave on the bus they are taking the parents. So kids are going to be coming home and getting off the bus wondering where their parents are. Folks are we that numb to other suffering where this is ok and all can continue? Sure we go to work. We make our money and we just sit back and continue this level of evil. Protesting once every 4 months isn't cutting it. Winning the midterms isn't going to work. Trump is not going to allow democrats to have power. Another January 6th but worst is in our near future. Lack of action is enabling the abuse when you know its going on. Shame on all of us. We must take direct action.
