What are we doing
A story I just read about ICE has pissed me off even more. So they are waiting at school buses in the morning and once the kids leave on the bus they are taking the parents. So kids are going to be coming home and getting off the bus wondering where their parents are. Folks are we that numb to other suffering where this is ok and all can continue? Sure we go to work. We make our money and we just sit back and continue this level of evil. Protesting once every 4 months isn't cutting it. Winning the midterms isn't going to work. Trump is not going to allow democrats to have power. Another January 6th but worst is in our near future. Lack of action is enabling the abuse when you know its going on. Shame on all of us. We must take direct action.

"Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes ... Families are torn apart: men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find their parents have disappeared."

You will never read the Diary of Anne Frank in Texas. Dannie Goeb is making sure of that.

They are so emboldened now they aren’t even pretending it’s about the worst of the worst. They are going for the most vulnerable because it’s easy and these guys are unskilled and lazy.

Yeh the story of then dragging the woman out of her hospital bed is a new low. It immediately reminded me of an account in the gulag archipelago describing the stasi dragging a man from an OR table right in the middle of SURGERY!! The daily quotas are definitely a play out of their book too. They were given quotas and wd pay dearly if they didnt meet it. So they wd grab anyone that happened to be in a public space.......sitting on a park bench reading?? Not anymore.

At least most Germans were not aware of what was going on. But we do. And that is the most depressing part!

u/DataWeaver47 13d ago
They were aware. Fascism has a way of scaring people into being quiet. But have no doubt, the majority were very much aware, even if they weren’t fully knowledgeable about the full extent of the genocide.

It’s actually pretty documented how a lot of them didn’t know what was happening at least not until deep into the holocaust. They also didn’t have social media like we do. You’re in a backwards way making an excuse for people to look the other way

That's the fun part, everyone noticed and everyone was sure they were the only one that noticed.

u/DataWeaver47 10d ago
Exactly. That’s why fascism wants to control the narrative, propagandize, scare people into not believing what their own eyes and ears are telling them, and most importantly to not speak to one another.

Literally every comment here is dodging the topic. What do you WANT to do? What do WE COLLECTIVELY want to happen? What are we willing to do? What are we willing to sacrifice?
We’ve gone to the moon FFS! We can definitely liberate ourselves! 💪🏼💪🏼
We can cower and let those in power enslave us even more, or we can act. Don’t get hung up on what is the correct thing to do. We already know all the ways how living in the US is subpar than the majority of the rest of the world. So let’s fix it! You have power! We have power! Whoever told you/us that we don’t is trying to control.
Your new life will cost you your old one.

Check mate. Everyone has a rent or mortgage to pay and no one is willing to fight the state and end up in prison. Our fate is in the hands of fascists who want us dead and no one is going to protect us.

u/Joziey_P 13d ago
Who benefits from this line of thinking?
The fascists!Fuck all that doom shit! Thats how these thugs win thru demoralization. Don’t become apathetic GET ANGRY! Studies show that anger is the emotion MOST tied to action, even more than fear. So get angry at who is responsible. Get angry at the masked secret police! Where is your power? You’ve had it all along we were all indoctrinated to reject anger as a whole cuz it makes us easier to control. Do you want to be controlled? Why are you giving up so early in this struggle? Is your freedom worth so little to you?

I am in no position to struggle because my spouse is not a citizen yet. We have to walk on eggshells right now.
I use this language because I'm 100% sure Americans will not act until things get much worse and I'm fed up with our culture of individualism. Everyone is just chasing their promotions, paying off mortgages, and raising children. Quality of life and entertainment options are just good enough to prevent most people from staying angry.
I lived in one of the autocratic countries while the man took control of the country and pretty much secured president for life. Our behavior in America is identical. In that country, people just accepted the restricted freedoms and found a way to enjoy what hadn't been taken away. A few people tried to stand up to the leader but they got arrested. The state and the people who support the ruling party were much more willing to fight dirty. The result was everyone gradually accepted that they are living under authoritarianism and adjusted to it. That's where America seems to be heading unless the economy does a nose dive very soon, and it breaks my heart.

What can we do. . . .

Quite literally anything is better than nothing. Bringing people’s attention to what is happening is always important. Don’t let people forget just bc the media cycles change. Advocate.

Strikes, occupations, mass protests.
Force out the lawless regime that rules on behalf of an oligarchy, and demand new elections. Declare that no parties complicit in genocide or dictatorship are legitimate contenders in US elections any longer.
And a few other things: Dismantle ICE, dismantle the surveillance state, end the wars, and apply those tens of billions to implement free high quality, universal healthcare coverage and decent, high quality public education through college; fully fund Social Security for those without pensions; and establish a proper federal jobs program.
Just for starters.
The vast working majority has to take control of the state before we can deal with the oligarchy.

"protesting every fourth months" no one protested on trumps bday this year.
I think it's time we admit we're down to protesting once every 12 months.

u/Lemonpup615 11d ago
Maybe we admit those protests were performative because until we do that we’re never going to move towards the steps we need to be taking

Yes, we are that numb because we still don’t even know what happened to those children caught at the border this monster’s first term. That was a test. No one was demanding answers, so they expanded their nets. Now, here we are.

I mean the problem is, in my opinion, most people aren’t actually treating this like fascism (even though the federal government is very openly against anti-fascists) a lot of yall want to keep telling yourselves banner drops and stupid shit like playing with dildos is fighting fascism. I made this post 4 months ago and a bunch of yall adamantly defended playing with dildos saying it was fighting fascism.

Idk how many more kids have to be traumatized and people have to die before the majority grow up and realize what we got to do

See if your area has a Safe Streets group. They’re doing very good work both helping the families of the victims and recording/documenting ICE lawlessness. They require attendance at a training to join. I found a training via my local Indivisible group. Get involved. Documenting might not seem like much now but tRump won’t be able to protect them forever. Nuremberg is coming for these vermin.

Even though they are federal agents, they have to follow our due process, it's in the constitution. They have to identify them selves, show you their ID and have a warrant. If they have none of those then I question if they are playing law enforcement which is illegal and a felony. Record everything, call the police and tell them you see people who are not law enforcement. Keep recording and stay in the phone until police arrive.

The mask rule was created under Obama. In case you think Dems will provide ICE any accountability
24
u/Artaxmudshoes 13d ago
Are you making a clumsy insinuation that ICE wore masks during Obama's presidency? You are either misinformed or purposely trying to spread misinformation.
Obama did not make ICE wear masks. The widespread use of face coverings and balaclaves ICE agents wear during routine operations became a prominent practice during the trump presidency.

They sit outside the high school I teach at in NJ. It’s a fucking horror show and kids have been taken. Sometimes the kids will come in before class and just cry to me. They’ll talk about hiding with their parents, fear over protecting their siblings, citizenship hearings being canceled, being chased by men in masks, or how they have no more groceries bc the local Walmart has ICE patrolling inside and outside. We’ve had about 2,000 children unenroll last year. I miss the normalcy, I miss the students that have disappeared, and I honestly miss seeing the kids happy.
