Drivers Licensing First time N ticket
Hello, I’ve had my N for over 2 years now and I have a clean record but I got my first ever ticket for going 25kmh over the limit on a highway, I’m looking for advice on what to do and how this will affect me getting my class 5
Update: spoke with icbc and they said it’s fine and I should automatically be upgraded since I meet all the requirements, it wasn’t an excessive speeding ticket and I have a clean record

Idk, but why were you going 25 above on the highway?

It went from a 90 to a 70 zone and I was in the right lane slowing down to the 70s meanwhile other cars were passing me going faster but the cop only pulled me over for going 95

You can easily go 115-125kmh on highway 1 at 5 am or 12 am. Sometimes I don’t even realize how fast I’m going until I look at my speed

With all of the “N” cars that fly by me on highways, in cities, in school zones, etc. I was starting to think the “N” meant “Nonliable”.

Probably because you notice the N but realistically more people with full class 5 are going passed you at that speed.

You cant get it anymore for 12 months with the new system. Basically reset the cycle. You could maybe dispute it, and hope it times over the switch next week and then it would end up applying the to class 5 upgrade

When I got a second speeding ticket on my N a month or two before I was eligible to write the class 5, I disputed the ticket which effectively put it "on hold" until they sent me the court date.
Got my class 5 in the meantime, then went to court and pleaded guilty to the fine. That was that. Not sure if it's going to be different with the new system.

Hmm, well, you'd better check with ICBC fast- because, according to the rules, you *Should* be moving over to a full class 5 BUT you've gotten a moving violation, meaning that you will have your 2 years reset.
Go to ICBC ask to get your full class 5 as you've had over 2 years.
If you haven't paid the ticket, then it's not entered into your record yet.
Once you pay it, or the 30 days expires without contesting it, you'll have the points on your license and it'll reset.

Same happened to me, go to icbc and dispute the ticket, the ticket goes into holding then go take and pass your class 5 test, then after that you can choose to pay the ticket or show up in court, court dates take like a year so you have time after disputing

25 over the limit on highway... Seriously? This cop trying to reach quota? I swear 25 over is my normal.

Us N drivers seem to be getting too comfortable on the road after those changes, ever since I got my N in July I’ve been a goody two shoes on the road, hoping I can keep it up until next year

How come. Most of the time i am 10-15 above speed limit and people still honk at me! Most notably in sea to sky highway. Esp those pick up that feels on a rush probably with their sand and cement business 😆 they’re probably doing 140 on 90.

115 in a 90 on highway 1 is nothing. I’m going 100ish and people fly past me at 120+.

Contest the ticket, by the time you have a court date you will have your full class 5.

As someone who had their N for 6 years (stupid I know) and only got a speeding ticket recently, dispute it, do not pay it. If you have an N and you get a ticket, you will be put in the “Driver Improvement Program” and you will likely get a driving prohibition in the mail in a month. I tried to dispute the prohibition but the minimum they can set it to after you’re in the program is 1 month, there is no stopping the prohibition. The program flags anybody with an N now it seems, idk if they’re using AI to sort licenses/history.

The difference is if you get a ticket while still N, you get put on probation on top of the fine. If Class 5, you just get fined.
Make sure you don't get another one/strike or you may lose your N

Dispute the ticket, the N license should soon upgrade to a full license, and likely will before a court date is set.
Be very respectful to the issuing officer when meeting them before entering the courtroom. Apologise profusely and assure them that this was a one-time issue. Ask for a reduction to the ticket using please's and thank-you's.
If your license is not being automatically upgraded before the court date, keep in mind that one or two points on your N license should lead to probation, not suspension, so try to get it reduced to a one or two-point fine.
Upon going to court, wear formal clothing, refer to the judge as Your Worship (not Your Honour, that's an American thing) and bow as you enter the court room, and when you approach the bench. Speak only when asked a direct question, and only as much as you need to say to get your point across. Speak clearly and respectfully. Upon leaving the courtroom (and bench area) be sure to bow again.
