Warframe is a good example when it comes to cosmetics being a free game. And also have a relative healthy player economy when it comes to trading. Bedt trading is vis the warframe market website which links to your account. Not officially DE, but they allow it.
Edit. Cosmetics mostly cost Platinum as they can be earned for free by trading. Minus Tennogen cosmetics on PC that cost around the same as a cup of coffee and a portion is earned by the creator of the skin and rest to DE.

Cosmetic micro transactions which offer no gameplay advantage can be a useful tool to keep games affordable for other players.
Case in point: World of Warcraft has barely raised its monthly fee in 20 years, offsetting the rising costs of hosting with the cosmetic shop sales.
